    • In Thursday's lineup
Soler (illness) will serve as San Francisco's designated hitter and bat leadoff Thursday against the Blue Jays, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: An illness caused Soler to sit down for the Giants' last two games, but he seems to be feeling well enough to return to action Thursday. The 32-year-old has been in a bit of a slump recently, going 4-for-28 (.160) with one RBI and nine strikeouts since the beginning of July. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago

    • Getting afternoon off
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alvarez will receive a breather for Thursday's matinee contest after he had started each of the previous four days, with three coming at catcher and one at designated hitter. Luis Torrens will fill in behind the dish Thursday in place of Alvarez, who is slashing .300/.382/.433 thus far in July. Rotowire.com Today, 8:14 am
    • Getting afternoon off
Naylor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Naylor had started in 13 straight contests dating back to June 27, so the Guardians will give the slugger a breather in the day game after a night game. David Fry checks in at first base in place of Naylor. Rotowire.com Today, 8:05 am

    • Roughed up in loss
Webb (7-7) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings while striking out four.

Advice: Webb started the game strong, striking out three of the first six batters he faced while holding the Blue Jays scoreless over the first four innings. However, things began to unravel for the veteran right-hander in the fifth when he surrendered a three-run shot to Ernie Clement after giving up singles to two of the first three batters in the frame. Webb returned for the sixth, but failed to retire any of the first four batters he faced before being relieved by Sean Hjelle, who didn't fare much better. The former was charged with a season-high seven runs on the night and was unable to get through six innings for the first time in his last 12 starts. Webb has also surrendered multiple runs in eight consecutive outings. Rotowire.com Today, 5:59 am
    • Nabs 12th save
Sewald pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save over Atlanta on Wednesday.

Advice: Sewald entered the contest with a two-run lead in the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side for his 12th save of the campaign. It was a nice bounce-back effort for the closer, who had allowed multiple runs and blown a save in his previous three outings. It was also Sewald's third appearance in which he didn't allow any hits or walks over his last six. Rotowire.com Today, 5:17 am
    • Homers in win
Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 win over Atlanta.

Advice: Marte belted a home run to tie the game in the third inning of a back-and-forth affair. A starter in the upcoming All-Star game, Marte is batting .283/.351/.506 with 18 home runs, 52 RBI and 62 runs over 88 games. Rotowire.com Today, 4:10 am

    • Logan Webb stumbles in loss to Blue Jays
Logan Webb allowed seven runs across five innings, giving up eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Webb was cruising through four innings, allowing just one baserunner until a pair of base hits put two runners on with one out in the fifth. Ernie Clement drove them all in, putting the Blue Jays ahead with a three-run blast. Things would unravel for Webb in the sixth as Toronto recorded four straight hits to drive in two runs and knock Webb from the game. Two inherited runners would come in to score in what was a seven-run inning. The 27-year-old right-hander will take 3.47 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 107/28 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings into the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:42 pm
    • Nabs steal in win
Altuve went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Marlins.

Advice: Altuve has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, going 21-for-56 (.375) over that span. He's rounded his production during the hot stretch with two home runs, four steals, nine RBI and 10 runs scored. The second baseman's .822 OPS on the year is his lowest in the last four seasons, but he's still put together an excellent campaign by batting .309 with 13 homers, 14 steals, 41 RBI and 55 runs scored through 89 contests. • Shines in win
Valdez (8-5) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

Advice: This is the seventh time this season Valdez has gone at least seven innings, and he's allowed more than one run in just one of those outings. The southpaw has earned quality starts in four of his last five games, allowing 13 runs (10 earned) over 30.2 innings in that span. For the season, he's at a 3.66 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 82:32 K:BB across 98.1 innings through 16 starts. He's been giving up a lot of hits this season, but he's done a decent job at damage control and could have a strong second half if he can keep traffic off the bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:17 pm
