• Handed tough-luck loss
Montas (3-6) allowed a run on two hits and three walks over six innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against St. Louis.

Advice: Montas gave up an RBI sacrifice fly to Alec Burleson in the third inning but otherwise didn't face too much trouble. However, the Reds were shut out by the Cardinals and Montas was stuck with the loss. He generated 17 whiffs, his second-highest total of the year. He's produced back-to-back quality starts and has three in five outings this month. Montas lowered his season ERA to 4.23 with a 58:30 K:BB through 72.1 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Today, 9:11 pm

  • Carlos Estévez picks up 16th save of year vs. DET
Carlos Estévez didn’t give up a hit while qualifying for a save against the Tigers on Friday.

Advice: Estévez didn’t give up a hit, didn’t strike anyone out and didn’t issue a walk. He didn’t really have a chance to do any of those things as the Tigers made him throw only nine pitches; eight of those landing for strikes. The 31-year-old is already up to 16 saves on the year with a very useable 3.12 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 9:06 pm
  • Andre Pallante combines on shutout of Reds
Andre Pallante pitched 5 1/3 innings and combined with four relievers on a 1-0 shutout of the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Pallante allowed four hits and walked three, but the Reds couldn’t push a run across against him or anyone else. It’s the third time in his six starts that he’s gone without allowing a run. He’s given up 12 earned runs over 11 2/3 innings in those remaining three starts, but he’s shown enough to stick in the rotation for now. Rotoworld Today, 8:55 pm

  • Helsley barely avoids game-tying homer in save
Ryan Helsley worked a flawless ninth for his 29th save Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Helsley very nearly surrendered a game-tying homer to Stuart Fairchild with two outs in the ninth, but Brendan Donovan made a jumping catch at the wall. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 14 of the 30 parks. This was a very quick outing for Helsley — he threw just six pitches — so even though he’s worked four out of six days, there’s a good chance he’ll be available Saturday. • Frankie Montas takes tough loss in 1-0 game
Frankie Montas limited the Cardinals to one run and two hits over six innings in a losing cause Friday.

Advice: Montas wasn’t as strong as the line suggests; he allowed nine hard-hit balls and two would have been homers had this been a home game. Since it was played in St. Louis instead, Nolan Gorman had a flyout on a ball that was a homer in 24 parks and Michael Siani settled for a double on a shot that was a homer in 12 parks. • Struggles with command in loss
Hudson (2-11) took the loss Friday versus the White Sox, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The Colorado righty failed to find the strike zone as his five free passes matched a season worst previously reached April 13 and June 16. Hudson finishes off a poor June, during which he made five starts, going 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 13:14 K:BB across 24.1 innings. Things don't get much easier for him as he's currently scheduled to face the Brewers -- a team collectively sporting a 113 wRC+ against righties -- at home in his next outing. • Moves to 4-3
Pallante (4-3) allowed four hits and three walks over 5.1 shutout frames Friday, striking out five and earning a win over Cincinnati.

Advice: Pallante worked around a few jams to keep the Reds off the board. The Cardinals would go on to win 1-0, so his scoreless performance was much-needed. Since moving into the starting rotation, Pallante has produced a 3.86 ERA with a 25:13 K:BB in six starts. His season ERA dropped to 4.50 through 38 innings. Pallante's next start is currently lined up to be in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Today, 8:49 pm

  • Extends saves lead
Helsley struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Helsley had about as efficient of an outing as possible, needing only six pitches to close out the 1-0 game. It was his 29th save in 30 tries this season and he lowered his June ERA to 3.00 through 12 appearances. Helsley leads all of baseball in saves and no one else has more than 25. He dropped his season ERA to 2.68 alongside a 44:16 K:BB. Rotowire.com Today, 8:43 pm

  • Alec Marsh strong for six against Guardians
Alec Marsh pitched six innings of one-run ball Friday in a victory over the Guardians.

Advice: Marsh came into the night with a 6.61 ERA in his previous six starts, so he needed this. Since it’s just the fifth time this year that he’s completed six innings, he has only four quality starts. Nevertheless, he’s 6-5 with a 4.19 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 8:33 pm
