• Set to undergo UCL surgery
Manager John Schneider said Friday that Manoah will undergo UCL surgery June 17, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Manoah left in the second inning of his last start May 29 against the White Sox, and he was placed on the injured list two days later with what was diagnosed as a right UCL sprain. Manoah began the season on the IL with right shoulder inflammation, and since returning May 5, he's posted a 1-2 record with a 3.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB over 24.1 innings. It's not clear whether Manoah will need Tommy John surgery or a brace repair, but the procedure will end the 26-year-old right-hander's 2024 season. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Manoah to miss remainder of 2024 after UCL surgery
Alek Manoah will miss the rest of the 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair his right UCL on June 17.

Advice: Manoah left his last outing with left elbow discomfort, and the 26-year-old will need to miss the remainder of 2024 after undergoing the procedure. It’s yet another setback for a right-hander who was among the best young hurlers in baseball in 2022, and now has many more questions than answers regarding his future in the sport. • Kyle Tucker (shin) remains out Friday vs. Angels
Kyle Tucker (shin) is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Angels.

Advice: Tucker will miss a third straight game while dealing with the shin contusion that he picked up Monday. The outfielder is considered day-to-day with a good chance to return to the lineup against the Halos before the end of the weekend. Trey Cabbage is starting in Tucker’s place. • Contreras (forearm) expects to return before July
Willson Contreras told reporters that he expects to return from his forearm injury before July.

Advice: When asked if he could return as a designated hitter instead of a backstop, Contreras answered with a convincing “hell no.” The backstop did say a return against Chicago next week seemed a little fast ,but he does appear like he’ll beat his All-Star game timeline. Contreras wouldn’t offer a progression update, but everything here points to a return at some point in late June. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

  • Corey Seager (hamstring) unavailable Friday
Corey Seager will not be available off the bench Friday after leaving Wednesday’s game with a hamstring strain.

Advice: Seager has avoided the IL for now and is considered day-to-day. The Rangers have Josh Smith at shortstop and Ezequiel Duran at third base tonight. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

Robertson (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Saturday will be Robertson's first bullpen since landing on the injured list May 26 due to right elbow inflammation. Before the injury, Robertson appeared in eight games for the Cardinals, registering a 4.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 12.1 innings out of the bullpen. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

  • Not starting again
McCormick is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Angels, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: McCormick will be on the bench for a third straight game Friday. He's played in nine games since returning from the injured list May 21, going 2-for-23 with seven strikeouts over that span. Yordan Alvarez will start in left field Friday, while Yainer Diaz will serve as the designated hitter against Angels right hander Griffin Canning. Rotowire.com Today, 4:01 pm

  • Resting versus lefty
Varsho isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup Friday against the Athletics.

Advice: Left-hander Hogan Harris will start on the bump for Oakland, so the lefty-hitting Varsho will watch the beginning of Friday's game from the dugout. Davis Schneider will fill the opening in left field, moving Isiah Kiner-Falefa to second base while Ernie Clement starts at the hot corner. Rotowire.com Today, 3:58 pm

  • Lucas Erceg (forearm) throws bullpen session
Lucas Erceg, on the IL with a forearm strain, threw a 20-pitch bullpen session without incident Thursday.

Advice: Erceg will throw again Sunday. The setup man will be eligible to come off the IL on June 16, and it sounds like he might be ready then. Rotoworld Today, 3:58 pm
