    • Lourdes Gurriel sitting Tuesday against Rangers
Lourdes Gurriel is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers.

Advice: Gurriel went just 1-for-10 in the three-game series against the Marlins, and he’s hitting .203 with a .582 OPS thus far in the month of May. He’ll take a seat with Pavin Smith getting the start in right field while hitting fifth. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
    • Taking seat Tuesday
Gurriel is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Rangers.

Advice: It's a routine day off for Gurriel, who is batting just .203/.241/.291 with one home run so far in May. The Diamondbacks will utilize Jake McCarthy and Pavin Smith as their corner outfielders Tuesday. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago
    • Collects hit in return
Abreu went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Monday against the Mariners.

Advice: Abreu was back in the lineup for the first time in a month and hit eighth while playing first base. He had a rough start to the game defensively, misplaying a line drive off the bat of J.P. Crawford. However, Abreu made up for that with an RBI single in the fifth frame. The Astros seemingly plan to give Abreu regular run at first base, though he'll still need to outperform Jon Singleton unless they're willing to play Yordan Alvarez more regularly in left field at the expense of Chas McCormick. • Drives in four runs
Blackmon went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and four RBI in Monday's win over Cleveland.

Advice: Blackmon did most of his damage with a three-run shot to cap off Colorado's six-run fourth inning. It was his second long ball of the year and he snapped a 34-game homerless drought. Blackmon also added a pair of doubles, giving him his first multi-hit performance since May 9. He's now slashing .237/.312/.378 with 15 extra-base hits and 23 RBI through 45 games. • Charlie Blackmon homers, doubles twice in win
Charlie Blackmon homered, doubled twice and drove in four runs to lead the Rockies to an 8-6 win over the Guardians.

Advice: Definitely the best game of the year for Blackmon, who also made a fine sliding catch in foul territory down the right field line. The homer was his second in 173 plate appearances. He’s currently batting .237/.312/.378, which isn’t at all good for a Coors Field player lacking much in the way of defensive value. Still, the Rockies are going to keep playing him the majority of the time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:16 pm
    • Back in big leagues
The Astros recalled Abreu from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Astros sent Abreu to the minors in late April following a disastrous .099/.156/.113 start to the season with the hope that he could rediscover his swing. He went 7-for-22 with two doubles, one home run and three RBI across five games with the Florida Complex League Astros before going hitless in two games with Sugar Land. The 37-year-old Abreu is starting at first base and batting eighth for Houston in Monday's game in Seattle. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:02 pm

    • Astros place Cristian Javier on IL due to forearm
Astros placed RHP Cristian Javier on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 24, due to right forearm discomfort.

Advice: The Astros don’t seem to think Javier’s problem is significant, but we’ll see. He’ll definitely miss two starts now. The Astros could bring up Eric Lauer to step in if they want to stick with a six-man rotation, but that’s not the immediate plan; they’re going with Hunter Brown, Justin Verlander and Spencer Arrighetti from Tuesday through Thursday. Tuesday would have been Javier’s day to pitch. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:59 pm

    • Goes on IL for right forearm
The Astros placed Javier on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 24, due to right forearm discomfort.

Advice: Javier was scheduled for a bullpen session Sunday, but he was pulled after experiencing discomfort in his right forearm. He'll be sent for imaging Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. With Javier on the IL, Hunter Brown will start Tuesday against the Mariners, while Justin Verlander and Spencer Arrighetti take the mound Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. The Astros recalled right-hander Alex Speas from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:56 pm

    • Astros bring back Abreu, demote Loperfido
Astros recalled 1B José Abreu from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: Abreu was deemed ready to return after going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and one walk in two Triple-A games. Maybe he’ll be OK for the Astros, but it’s hard to see him being much better than that, given how he’s performed since the start of 2023 (.221/.280/.352 in 671 PA). Jon Singleton will head back to the bench for now. In spite of a .333 average during his time in the majors, Joey Loperfido was sent down to make room for Abreu. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:52 pm
