    • Zack Wheeler (back) not starting Sunday vs. A’s
Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters Zack Wheeler (back) will not start on Sunday against the Athletics.

Advice: The positive news here for fantasy managers is that an MRI on Wheeler’s back didn’t reveal anything serious and he’s expected to be ready to roll coming out of next week’s All-Star break. It’s a tough development for fantasy purposes as the veteran fantasy ace loses an extremely favorable start during Sunday’s first-half finale against a rebuilding Oakland squad that has been piling up the strikeouts of late. • Yordan Alvarez out Thursday with hip ailment
Yordan Alvarez (hip) is absent from the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Marlins.

Advice: No real surprise here as the Astros aren’t going to take any chances with their middle-of-the-order lynchpin with the All-Star break in a few days. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar made an early exit from Wednesday’s contest due to right hip tightness. It doesn’t sound like he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, but he might not play a ton over the next few days. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. • Not in Thursday's lineup
Alvarez (hip) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The 27-year-old was removed from Wednesday's contest due to right hip tightness and will be out of the starting nine for at least one game. Alvarez also sat out a game over the weekend due to knee soreness, and the Astros are likely to be extra cautious with the slugger since the All-Star break is just a few days away. • Won't start Sunday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Wheeler (back) won't make his scheduled start Sunday against the Athletics, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 34-year-old had an MRI on his back come back negative after he experienced lower-back tightness during Tuesday's start, but Philadelphia will play it safe and skip the right-hander for his final outing before the All-Star break. Wheeler is expected to be ready to go to begin the second half, though it's unclear if he'll be tabbed to start during the opening series in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Today, 1:08 pm

    • Stuck with tough loss
Eflin (5-6) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk over seven innings as the Rays fell 2-1 to the Yankees. He struck out six.

Advice: The right-hander put together one of his better performances of the season, but a lack of run support forced Eflin to settle for his sixth quality start of the year rather than a win. His control remains impeccable -- Eflin has walked one batter or fewer in 11 straight outings, posting a 3.94 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 48:5 K:BB through 64 innings over that stretch. He'll enjoy a breather as he doesn't line up to make another start ahead of the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 6:00 am
    • Roughed up in loss
Webb (7-7) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings while striking out four.

Advice: Webb started the game strong, striking out three of the first six batters he faced while holding the Blue Jays scoreless over the first four innings. However, things began to unravel for the veteran right-hander in the fifth when he surrendered a three-run shot to Ernie Clement after giving up singles to two of the first three batters in the frame. Webb returned for the sixth, but he failed to retire any of the first four batters he faced before being relieved by Sean Hjelle, who didn't fare much better. Webb was charged with a season-high seven runs on the night and was unable to get through six innings for the first time in his last 12 starts. He has also surrendered multiple runs in eight consecutive outings. Rotowire.com Today, 5:59 am
    • Logan Webb stumbles in loss to Blue Jays
Logan Webb allowed seven runs across five innings, giving up eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Webb was cruising through four innings, allowing just one baserunner until a pair of base hits put two runners on with one out in the fifth. Ernie Clement drove them all in, putting the Blue Jays ahead with a three-run blast. Things would unravel for Webb in the sixth as Toronto recorded four straight hits to drive in two runs and knock Webb from the game. Two inherited runners would come in to score in what was a seven-run inning. The 27-year-old right-hander will take 3.47 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 107/28 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings into the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:42 pm
    • Three hits, two runs in loss
Marte went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies.

Advice: This was Marte's first multi-hit effort since his season debut June 27. The infielder is batting just .176 with one home run, six RBI, eight runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases over 54 plate appearances. Marte is likely still working some things out on the fly after opening the year with an 80-game suspension, but he continues to see consistent playing time at third base amid his struggles. • Zach Eflin allows two runs in loss to Yankees
Zach Eflin was charged with two runs (one earned) over seven innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Eflin certainly deserved a better fate in this one as he surrendered a run-scoring double in the second inning to Trent Grisham, who also added a fourth-inning sacrifice fly, which accounted for all of the damage against him during a low-scoring tractor pull at Tropicana Field. He finished with six strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. It was a strong bounce-back effort for the 30-year-old righty after being lit up for six runs (five earned) over five innings his last time out against the Royals. He’ll carry a solid 3.99 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 78/9 K/BB ratio across 99 1/3 innings (17 starts) into the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:05 pm
