    • Stuck with loss against M's
Marsh (3-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk over five innings as the Royals fell 4-2 to the Mariners. He struck out seven.

Advice: The right-hander generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 102 pitches -- his biggest workload of the season -- but didn't get enough support from his offense or defense to avoid his first loss. A stint on the injured list after taking a comebacker off his pitching elbow hasn't derailed Marsh's momentum, as he's given up just two earned runs total over his last four starts while posting a 21:7 K:BB in his last 20.1 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Tigers. Rotowire.com Today, 4:19 am
    • Beginning rehab assignment
Springs (elbow) will pitch in the Florida Complex League on May 20, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Springs completed a two-inning live batting practice session Wednesday, lining him up to return to the mound in an official game for the first time since April 13, 2023. He'll have a significant ramp-up period before being activated from the injured list, but he is projected to return in late June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:59 pm

    • Freddie Freeman collects two hits, scores run in loss
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk against the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Freeman drew a walk in the third inning, then knocked a base hit in the fifth. He reached for a third time with a single to lead off the eighth and came around to score on a single and a sacrifice fly. The 34-year-old first baseman is hitting .297/.408/.455 with four homers, 26 runs scored, 24 RBI, and one steal across 201 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:15 pm

    • Lowers ERA to 1.37
Suarez (8-0) earned the win over the Mets on Wednesday, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

Advice: Suarez allowed a run in each of the first and third frames, but neither run was earned. The left-hander thus lowered his season ERA to 1.37, third-best in the majors among qualified starters. Suarez also leads the league with eight victories and a 0.76 WHIP, and he has yet to take a loss. He's among the early contenders for Cy Young consideration in the National League and has been one of fantasy's most impactful sleepers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 pm
    • Javier Assad cruises through six to beat Braves
Javier Assad continued his strong season with six scoreless innings in the Cubs’ 7-1 victory in Atlanta. He struck out seven, allowed four hits, and just one walk earning the win.

Advice: Unfazed by the Braves’ daunting lineup, Assad was in complete control in this one. Only one runner reached scoring position and he lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.49, good for the fourth-lowest among all starting pitchers. He’s lined up for a rematch with the Braves on Monday. • Continues to shine as starter
Assad (4-0) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against Atlanta. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

Advice: Assad has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in all nine of his starts this season, which has allowed him to compile a stellar 1.49 ERA across 48.1 innings. The young righty was effective as a long reliever last year and it was uncertain in spring training if he'd be able to grab a rotation spot, but at this point, it would seem unlikely that he's moved back to the bullpen given his strong play. Assad will look to keep rolling as a starter in his next scheduled outing, which is penciled in for Tuesday against this same Atlanta squad. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:24 pm

    • Ranger Suárez earns win vs. Mets
Ranger Suárez fought for the win in what was his worst start in weeks. He lasted five innings, walked two, and struck out three in a win over the Mets Wednesday night. Both runs he allowed were unearned.

Advice: This felt more like the Ranger Suárez of old, nibbling around the zone and unable to put many away. He was able to work out of trouble effectively as the Mets had men on base in four out of five innings and could not start a rally. Suárez’s step forward this season should still be seen as legitimate, but keep an eye on his command as he fell behind 1-0 to 16 of the 33 hitters he faced. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:53 pm
    • Delivers clutch hit
Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Cincinnati.

Advice: Gurriel's two-out, bloop double in the eighth inning plated the winning run. The outfielder has been fighting it at the plate and entered the contest batting .121 (8-for-66) with two RBI over the previous 16 games. His average has dropped .231 due to the slump, but Gurriel remains an important middle-of-the-order bat for Arizona and is second on the club with 25 RBI over 40 games. • Alec Marsh pitches well in loss to Mariners
Alec Marsh pitched well in a losing effort against the Mariners on Wednesday afternoon, surrendering two runs (one earned) on five hits over his five frames.

Advice: The right-hander punched out seven batters on the day while allowing only one base on balls. The Mariners scratched out an unearned run against him in the second inning, then Ty France got him for a solo homer in the fourth inning — but that was the extent of the damage done against him. Marsh got a whopping 16 swings and misses on 102 pitches on the day — nine of those on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll carry a stellar 2.43 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 31/10 K/BB ratio (37 innings) into a nice matchup against the Tigers in Kansas City on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:50 pm
