    • Will Smith absent from Dodgers lineup on Friday
Will Smith is absent from the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Friday night’s opener of their two-game Freeway Series against the Angels in Los Angeles.

Advice: It’s a bit surprising to see the 29-year-old slugger sitting against a left-hander, but there hasn’t been any word yet about Smith dealing with any sort of injury. He did start three of the four games against the Rockies in Colorado, so perhaps it’s just a day of rest. Austin Barnes will do the catching for the Dodgers on Friday night and will bat ninth against Patrick Sandoval and the Angels. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

    • Scratched due to left thumb injury
Campusano (thumb) has been scratched from Friday's lineup against the Brewers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Campusano was initially slated to start behind home plate and bat eighth, but manager Mike Shildt said the catcher was scratched due to "soreness and bruising" in his left thumb, and it's unclear whether a stint on the IL is needed. Kyle Higashioka will instead start at catcher and bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

    • Luis Campusano scratched from Padres lineup
Luis Campusano was scratched from the Padres’ starting lineup on Friday night.

Advice: No word yet as to the reason for the late scratch, but it’ll be Kyle Higashioka starting in his place behind the dish and batting ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers on Friday evening in San Diego. Stay tuned. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago

    • Riding pine Friday
Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Smith has caught four of the Dodgers' last five games and will give way to Austin Barnes behind the plate Friday. Smith has just two hits in his last 23 at-bats; however, the hits were a two-RBI triple and a solo homer. Rotowire.com 58 minutes ago

    • David Hamilton not in Red Sox’ lineup on Friday
David Hamilton is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Advice: The 26-year-old speedster has been battling discomfort in his left side, so it’s possible that they’re just easing him back into action. Or if could be that the Red Sox are facing a left-handed starter in Andrew Abbott. Either way, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him pinch-run and still swipe a bag or two on Friday night before all is said and done. Romy Gonzalez will start in his place at shortstop and bat second for the Red Sox on Friday evening. Rotoworld Today, 1:14 pm

    • On bench against left-hander
Hamilton is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati.

Advice: The left-handed hitting Hamilton has been an everyday guy lately for the Red Sox, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Reds send southpaw Andrew Abbott to the bump. Hamilton has also dealt with a side issue this week, so the team could be exercising caution here. Romy Gonzalez will handle shortstop Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 12:33 pm

    • Continues power surge Thursday
Merrill went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-6 win over Milwaukee on Thursday.

Advice: Merrill hit the second of back-to-back homers with Manny Machado in the first inning to give San Diego an early lead. The long ball was the second in as many days for Merrill, who has surged in the power department of late, with six of his nine homers on the campaign coming over his past eight games. All six of those long balls have been of the solo variety, but it's still a positive development for Merrill's fantasy managers after he went deep just three times over his first 68 games. • Belts walk-off homer
Cronenworth went 2-for-5 with a walk-off solo home run and an additional run in Thursday's 7-6 win against the Brewers.

Advice: Cronenworth became the latest ninth-inning hero for the Padres when he swatted a 401-foot solo blast to give the team its third straight walk-off win. The long ball was the 11th of the season through 74 games for the infielder, who has already surpassed his total of 10 homers over 127 contests last year. Cronenworth is on pace to exceed his career-best totals of 21 home runs and 71 RBI, which he established in 2021. Rotowire.com Today, 9:58 am

    • Hits 11th homer
Smith went 1-for-5 with a solo home run against Colorado in Thursday's 5-3 victory.

Advice: Smith hit one of three Los Angeles long balls Thursday, bashing a 451-foot solo shot to center field in the fourth inning. It was the catcher's 11th home run of the campaign, which leads NL backstops. Across the majors, only three catchers have more homers than Smith this season, and only two (Adley Rutschman and William Contreras) have topped Smith's 45 RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:29 pm
