    • Clay Holmes walks tightrope, but escapes with save
Clay Holmes walked the tightrope against the Dodgers in the ninth inning on Sunday, but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to earn his 19th save of the season.

Advice: Holmes had no trouble getting the first two outs of the inning, but then he allowed singles to Gavin Lux and Enrique Hernandez to put the tying runs on base for Mookie Betts. He battled back though, getting Betts on a swinging third strike to close it out for the Yankees. The 31-year-old hurler has been outstanding this season, posting a 1.23 ERA and 29/8 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings to go along with his 19 saves. Rotoworld Today, 6:56 pm

    • Records just four outs
Montas (3-5) took the loss Sunday against the Cubs, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two in 1.1 innings.

Advice: The right-hander never found his footing Sunday, loading the bases in the first inning and surrendering a bases-clearing double to Ian Happ. Things didn't get much better for Montas in the second inning as he allowed an RBI single before exiting with runners on second and third. Fortunately those runners did not come around to score, but Montas was highly disappointing following a dazzling performance in Coors field last week where he recorded nine strikeouts over seven scoreless innings. The 31-year-old currently owns a 4.55 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP with 44 strikeouts in 55.1 innings, but his inconsistency makes him a high-risk, high-reward play for fantasy managers. He will look to rebound in his next start, currently scheduled for next weekend in Milwaukee. Rotowire.com Today, 2:09 pm

    • Frankie Montas pulled in second versus Cubs
Frankie Montas got just four outs and allowed four runs Sunday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Montas followed up his best start of the year (7 IP, 0 R, 1 H in Coors Field) five days ago with his worst showing in this one. He walked three batters during a three-run first, and he was pulled after giving up hits to three of the first four batters he faced in the second. Fortunately for Montas’s ERA, Carson Spiers stranded both runners after taking over. Montas is 3-5 with a 4.55 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 2:08 pm

    • Michael King hurls five scoreless to beat D-backs
Michael King struck out five over five shutout innings on Friday in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: King received double-digit run support from San Diego’s offense and was able to cruise to a relatively easy win, scattering four hits and one walk over five spotless frames. The 29-year-old righty has been phenomenal of late, allowing three earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts since May 4. He’ll carry a sharp 3.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 83/32 K/BB ratio across 78 innings (14 appearances, 13 starts) into an extremely favorable matchup on Wednesday afternoon against the rebuilding Athletics. • Sharp in win
King (5-4) allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five over five scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: King wasn't all that efficient, needing 98 pitches (63 strikes) to get through five frames, but that's the only knock on his performance. He's been excellent over his last three starts, allowing just two runs on 11 hits and four walks with 16 strikeouts over his last 17 innings. King has a 3.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 83:32 K:BB through 78 innings across 14 appearances (13 starts). The right-hander will look to keep rolling in his next start, tentatively projected to come at home versus the Athletics. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:18 pm

    • Records save Thursday
Holmes earned a save against the Twins on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless inning.

Advice: Holmes gave up a one-out single after entering the game in the ninth frame, but that's all Minnesota managed against him. The talented closer has held opponents without an earned run in 27 of his 28 appearances this season, resulting in an excellent 1.32 ERA. Holmes ranks third in the majors with 18 saves (in 21 chances) on the campaign. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:08 pm

    • Holmes picks up 18th save against Twins
Clay Holmes tossed a scoreless inning and picked up the save against the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Holmes’ 18th of the season. He has allowed an earned run in only one of 28 appearances this year. Holmes has been fabulous with a 1.32 ERA and 28 strikeouts on the season. Rotoworld Thursday, 8:24 pm

    • Dazzles in win
Montas (3-4) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out nine over seven scoreless innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Advice: Montas navigated Coors Field with ease in his best start of the year. This was his third scoreless outing, though one of those was shortened by a forearm injury versus the Angels on April 21. The right-hander had been struggling to rack up strikeouts prior to Tuesday -- his previous season high was seven. Montas is at a decent 4.00 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 42:20 K:BB over 54 innings across 11 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Cubs. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:14 pm

    • Frankie Montas limits Rockies to one hit in win
Frankie Montas allowed only one hit over seven innings and struck out nine Tuesday in the Reds’ 4-1 defeat of the Rockies.

Advice: The seven innings and nine strikeouts were both season highs for Montas, who lowered his ERA from 4.60 to 4.00 in earning his first win since Apr. 3. A victory against the Rockies isn’t enough to warrant a mixed-league pickup, but it was encouraging to see Montas’s velocity up a bit tonight. He generated 20 missed swings on his 96 pitches.
