The Padres recalled Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

Advice: With Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) both headed for the injured list, Gillaspie and Randy Vasquez will come up from the minors to fill the openings in San Diego's pitching staff. Gillaspie has appeared in two games for the Padres this year, throwing 2.2 shutout innings, but he has posted a 5.17 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 15.2 frames in Triple-A. He will likely be limited to low-leverage situations while with the big-league club. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago
  • Lands on injured list
The Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain.

Advice: Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. His move to the IL is backdated to Thursday, allowing him to be eligible to return June 14. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places. • Phillies claim Freddy Tarnok off waivers from A’s
Phillies claimed RHP Freddy Tarnok off waivers from the Athletics.

Advice: Tarnok has been activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he’ll function as extra organizational pitching depth. The 25-year-old righty has made six appearances (one start) in the majors over the last three years. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Phillies transfer Dylan Covey to 60-day IL
Phillies transferred RHP Dylan Covey to the 60-day injured list.

  • Joe Musgrove lands on IL with triceps tendinitis
Padres placed RHP Joe Musgrove on the 15-day injured list with right triceps tendinitis.

Advice: Musgrove lasted just two starts before a reccurrance of the triceps issue that sent him to the injured list at the outset of May winds up putting him back on the shelf. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune adds that Musgrove’s triceps issue “is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.” It certainly doesn’t sound great and fantasy managers should anticipate Musgrove requiring a lengthy absence. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. Stay tuned. • Elbow issues return
The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Musgrove was originally slated to start Saturday against the Royals, but he will now return to the injured list after experiencing further issues with his right elbow/triceps. The 31-year-old was able to return from the IL after 16 days following his first encounter with elbow problems in May, but the Padres will likely bring him back slower this time around to ensure his elbow is back to 100 percent the next time he takes the mound. Randy Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A to start in Musgrove's place Saturday and will likely remain in the Padres' rotation until Musgrove is able to return. Rotowire.com 59 minutes ago

  • Cole Ragans to start on Sunday against Padres
Cole Ragans will start on Sunday against the Padres.

Advice: Ragans will take the ball on regular rest for Sunday’s series finale against San Diego with Brady Singer needing some extra rest as he continues to recover from an illness. Royals manager Matt Quatraro told reporters Saturday that Singer could slot into the rotation for Wednesday’s contest against the Guardians. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

  • Activated, called up ahead of start
Poteet (finger) was activated from the minor-league 7-day injured list and called up to start Saturday's contest versus the Giants.

Advice: Poteet is officially set to make his second major-league start of the season Saturday, replacing Clarke Schmidt (lat) on the mound for the Yankees. The right-hander last pitched with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 19, allowing three runs over four innings before missing his last outing with a blister. Poteet drew his first start with New York on April 13, tossing six innings of one-run ball while striking out four in a win over the Guardians. It's unclear if the Yankees view Poteet as a long-term replacement for Schmidt, who's expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks, but a strong outing Saturday could certainly make that a possibility. • Sent back to Triple-A
Morris was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following the Yankees' 6-2 win over San Francisco on Friday.

Advice: Morris was called up Thursday, failing to appear in a contest out of the bullpen before being sent back down to Triple-A. The right-hander will now have to wait for his next chance to join the major-league roster. In a corresponding move, Cody Poteet was recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and he'll start Saturday's contest versus the Giants. Rotowire.com Today, 10:19 am
