    • Spencer Howard starting Saturday vs. Rangers
Spencer Howard will start on Saturday against the Rangers.

Advice: Howard takes the ball on Saturday afternoon against the defending World Series champions after operating in a bulk relief role in his last two outings. He’s looked sharp, striking out seven and allowing only two runs over 8 2/3 innings (two appearances) since May 28. Keaton Winn (forearm) is expected to be activated from the injured list to start Sunday’s series finale against the Rangers. Rotoworld 2 minutes ago
    • Getting start in bullpen day
Mlodzinksi will start Saturday's game against the Twins in what's expected to be a bullpen day for the Pirates, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Mlodzinski will be picking up his second big-league start and his first of the 2024 season while the Pirates look to fill the spot in the rotation that was previously occupied by Quinn Priester (lat), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Over his 20 appearances this season between the Pirates and Triple-A Indianapolis, Mlodzinski hasn't covered more than two innings on any occasions, so manager Derek Shelton is unlikely to ask the right-hander to work more than once through the batting order. Luis Ortiz covered a season-high three innings in his most recent appearance out of the bullpen June 1 in Toronto and could be called upon to serve as a bulk reliever once Mlodzinski exits the game. • Ineffective effort Friday
Brieske allowed two runs on three hits across two innings of relief in Friday's 10-0 loss to the Brewers. He walked two and struck out two.

Advice: The game was already essentially over after Detroit starter Reese Olson allowed eight runs over four innings, but Brieske didn't help matters. Even after the rough appearance, the righty still has a solid 2.70 ERA, and he's only been scored upon twice in seven appearances this season. Brieske should stick in a long relief role for the Tigers, giving him limited fantasy appeal at the moment despite his good play. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Expected to resume mound work
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Friday that Perez (groin) will likely resume throwing off the slope of a mound this weekend, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Perez was placed on the 15-day injured list May 28 with a left groin strain, which he sustained while covering first base on a play during his last start May 26. Tomczyk noted that Perez is pain-free in all of his rehab activities and has been throwing off flat ground without restrictions, so the southpaw looks like he'll soon be able to move on to the next phase of his rehab by throwing a bullpen session. Perez is without a defined target date for a return from the IL, but he's likely at least a week away from being activated. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Jeff McNeil on the bench Saturday vs. Phillies
Jeff McNeil remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s London Series opener against the Phillies.

Advice: McNeil is out of the lineup for the fourth straight game and fifth time in New York’s last seven as his struggles at the dish continue. The 32-year-old infielder is batting .227/.296/.320 with three homers and three steals across 224 plate appearances. It’ll be Jose Iglesias at second base and batting eighth during Saturday’s series opener across the pond. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

    • Reaches three times in loss
Busch went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Reds.

Advice: Busch came into the contest in a bit of a slump, as he was just 1-for-10 over his previous six games. Overall, he's slowed down some after a strong start to the season, though he still has a solid .783 OPS and provides decent pop against righties. While Busch continues to generally sit against lefties, he has at least batted .304 (7-for-23) against them when given the opportunity. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Picks up victory Friday
Grove (4-2) pitched a perfect inning to earn the win in relief against the Yankees on Friday.

Advice: Neither team was able to score through nine innings, pushing the contest into extra frames. The Dodgers failed to score in the top of the 10th, but Grove was able to extend the game by keeping the Yankees from scoring in the bottom of that inning. The right-hander then moved into position for the win as a result of Los Angeles scoring twice in the top of the 11th. Grove still has an uninspiring 4.59 ERA on the campaign, but he's been pitching well since the end of April. Over his past 15 outings, he holds a 2.20 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 16.1 frames while recording four wins and four holds. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago

    • Gets breather Saturday
Rojas isn't in the Phillies' lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Despite the Mets sending left-handed starter Sean Manaea to the mound, Rojas will step out of the lineup for the second game in a row Saturday. Cristian Pache will take over in center field again and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 6:44 am

    • Sitting versus lefty
Dahl isn't in the Phillies' lineup Saturday against the Mets, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Lefty Sean Manaea will start on the hill for New York, meaning the left-handed bat of Dahl will take a seat to begin Saturday's contest. Whit Merrifield will draw the start in left field and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Today, 6:40 am
