    • Strong start spoiled
Gilbert tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Angels, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out nine. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Gilbert was magnificent once again and had another strong start wasted by the bullpen. Gilbert exited with a 2-0 lead that vanished in the eighth inning after two walks and a three-run homer by Jo Adell put the Angels in front for good. Sunday was the fifth time this season that Gilbert did not allow a run in a start and his nine strikeouts tied a season high. The 27-year-old will head into the break with a 2.79 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 124:25 K:BB in 132.1 innings. Since he pitched Sunday, Gilbert will not be available to throw in Tuesday's All-Star Game. • Knocks homer in loss
Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Perez heads into the All-Star break 11-for-31 (.355) with three homers and eight RBI during his active eight-game hitting streak. The catcher is up to 17 homers on the year, giving him a good chance of surpassing the 23 he hit in each of the last two campaigns. He's added 62 RBI, 38 runs scored, 16 doubles and a .282/.343/.477 slash line over 94 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:18 pm

    • Collects rare two-inning save
Jansen tossed two innings Sunday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk to pick up the save against the Royals. He struck out three.

Advice: Jansen struck out the side in the eighth, then battled through the ninth, allowing a run but inducing a game-ending groundout with the tying run on second. While he had accomplished the feat previously in the postseason, it was the first regular-season two-inning save of Jansen's 15-year career. The 36-year-old reliever was not named to the American League All-Star roster, but he has put together another All-Star-caliber campaign with 19 saves, a 2.16 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 38 strikeouts over 33.1 innings. • Logan Gilbert goes seven scoreless in no-decision
Logan Gilbert shut out the Angels for seven innings, striking out nine, in a no-decision Sunday.

Advice: Gilbert allowed just two hits before leaving with a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it disappeared immediately in the eighth, as Ryne Stanek hurt himself on a leadoff walk and Austin Voth went on to give up a three-run homer to take a loss. It’s the fifth time this season that Gilbert has gone without allowing a run. He’s a worthy All-Star as he finishes the first half with a 2.79 ERA, but he won’t get to pitch in the game after working today. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:49 pm

    • Camilo Doval gives up two runs, takes blown save
Camilo Doval gave up two runs while getting just one out in the ninth to take his fourth blown save Sunday against the Twins.

Advice: Doval has been shaky throughout, though he did come into this one having allowed just one run in his previous nine innings. Today, he faced four batters and retired only one of them, allowing one walk and then a pair of doubles. The rough showing leaves him 17-for-21 in save opportunities and with a 4.38 ERA. His closer’s role has to be in some jeopardy, given that the Giants have plenty of solid alternatives. He certainly can’t afford to blow another save chance right away after the break. • Blows save Sunday
Doval allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one over one-third of an inning, taking a blown save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Doval's poor performance didn't stop the Giants from winning, but it made things a bit hairy in the ninth inning. The closer had gone five scoreless innings since his last blown save June 28, though he continues to put too many batters on base. For the season, Doval has a 4.38 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 49:24 K:BB over 37 innings while going 17-for-21 in save chances. If manager Bob Melvin changes his approach to the closer job, Doval could lose some of his save share to Ryan Walker or Tyler Rogers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:47 pm
    • Kenley Jansen goes two innings for 19th save
Kenley Jansen got a two-inning save, allowing one run in the process, against the Royals on Sunday.

Advice: Jansen struck out the side against the top of the order in the eighth before running into some trouble in the ninth. Still, he held on for his 19th save. The run was the first he’d allowed since June 12. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:54 pm
    • Salvador Perez goes 2-for-4, hits 17th homer
Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 and hit his 17th homer against the Red Sox on Sunday.

Advice: Perez slumped in June, but he’s bounced back nicely of late and will enter the All-Star break with an eight-game hitting streak. The homer today was his third during the streak and sixth in his last 18 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:54 pm

    • Falters into sixth win
Kimbrel (6-2) blew a save but picked up the win Sunday, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks over one inning against the Yankees. He struck out one.

Advice: Kimbrel came on in the ninth looking for his 24th save but quickly blew that opportunity by allowing a couple of walks followed by a three-run homer by Ben Rice. To his credit, Kimbrel then retired the next three batters, making him the pitcher of record when the Orioles completed their own comeback in the bottom of the inning. Despite Sunday's outing, Kimbrel has been highly effective in his first season with the Orioles, entering the All-Star break with six wins, 23 saves, a 2.80 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 39 appearances spanning 35.1 innings.
