    • Austin Riley homers against in win
Austin Riley went 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks in a win over the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: That’s now homers in back-to-back games for Riley, who might be starting to wake up a bit. There wasn’t much under the hood that looked “off” with Riley this year, but he was being pitched differently and not being given much he could turn on, which had hurt his pull power. Perhaps it took him a while to adjust his approach to combat that, or perhaps it’s just two good games. Only time will tell, but it seems smart to bet on Riley. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:17 pm

    • Charlie Morton has vintage performance in win
Charlie Morton allowed one run on three hits in six innings in a win over the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: Morton looked like his old self, striking out eight and walking two. He induced 22 whiffs on 49 swings for a ridiculous 45 percent whiff rate and 35 percent CSW. It was perhaps the 40-year-old’s best start of the season, and he’ll look to keep it going next week in a tough showdown against the Yankees. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:02 pm
    • Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon.

Advice: The 31-year-old hurler is dealing with elbow inflammation and soreness in his right triceps — and was given a cortisone shot and PRP injection after an MRI revealed that a bone spur was causing his issues. Shildt didn’t give any specifics regarding a specific timeline for Musgrove’s return, but if he starts throwing soon that’s at least an encouraging sign. He shouldn’t be expected back until after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:25 pm

    • Could resume throwing soon
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is getting closer to picking up a ball and starting a throwing program, per MLB.com.

Advice: Musgrove was diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow in early June and consequently received PRP and cortisone injections. While Shildt said Friday that the veteran pitcher could resume throwing soon, he didn't give specifics on a timeline. Given that Musgrove dealt with a similar injury in May, the Padres are unlikely to rush him back, and he's probably at least a month away from a return. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:16 pm

    • Keaton Winn strikes out six in no-decision vs. Angels
Keaton Winn allowed three runs with six strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Winn worked around a double in the first inning, then gave up a solo homer to Mickey Moniak in the second. Winn was hurt by the long ball again in the sixth, serving up a two-run homer to Logan O’Hoppe that tied the game. He’d be done after six with six strikeouts. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 6.66 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 46/19 K/BB ratio across 52 2/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Thursday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:50 pm
    • Not yet doing on-field activity
Trout (knee) has yet to progress to performing on-field activities, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Trout has been out of action since being diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his left knee near the end of April. Los Angeles has thus far kept him on the 10-day injured list, but he doesn't seem to be anywhere near being activated -- or even beginning a minor-league rehab stint -- given his lack of baseball activity. Trout is expected to return to action at some point this season, but the Angels are unlikely to rush him back given their position in the standings, and his timeframe for rejoining the team remains hazy. • Josiah Gray (elbow) to need two more rehab starts
Nationals’ manager Dave Martinez told reporters on Saturday that Josiah Gray (elbow) will require two more minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to rejoin the team’s rotation.

Advice: Gray made a rehab start at Double-A Harrisburg on Friday where he allowed just one run over four innings of work — throwing 41 pitches (27 strikes) in the session. He’ll go five innings his next time out and then will get to around 90 pitches or six innings in his final rehab start before he’s cleared to return. The 26-year-old hurler has been shelved for nearly two months now due to a flexor strain in his elbow. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:02 pm

    • Jackson Chourios knocks in two against Reds
Jackson Chourio singled twice and knocked in two runs against the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Chourio would surely be back in the minors at this point if he hadn’t signed a long-term deal this spring, but it’s not like he’s embarrassing himself with a .229/.280/.365 line as a 20-year-old in a season in which offense has been hard to come by. His long-term outlook hasn’t diminished at all, even if he still doesn’t seem like a very good bet in mixed leagues over the rest of 2024. Rotoworld Friday, 10:24 pm

    • Belts fourth homer
Riley went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBI in Friday's win over Tampa Bay.

Advice: Riley hit an RBI double in the first inning before hammering a two-run homer in the second. It was just his fourth homer of the year and first since May 3, snapping a 23-game drought. During that homerless streak, he posted a brutal .462 OPS. Riley is now slashing .230/.296/.357 with 17 extra-base hits and 23 RBI through 54 games. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:18 pm
