• Report: A’s designating J.D. Davis for assignment
The A’s have decided to cut J.D. Davis, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Advice: This is the move to make room for Lawrence Butler. We’re hard-pressed to see how Davis is worse than Seth Brown or even Abraham Toro, who has been pretty terrible since the A’s decided to make him their leadoff man. Still, none of this really matters — none of these guys are going to be part of the next competitive A’s team — but Davis might help someone else down the stretch. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Cruises to easy win
Peterson allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rangers.

Advice: Peterson delivered a quality start as the Mets piled on 14 runs of support in the victory. He's earned three straight wins and has produced a quality start in two of his first four outings this season. He dropped his ERA to 3.97 with a 12:8 K:BB through 22.2 innings. Peterson also generated a season-high 11 whiffs, including six with his fastball. His next start is expected to be on the road against the Cubs. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

  • Happ blasts three-run home run Monday
Ian Happ went 2-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run against the Giants on Monday.

Advice: Happ’s home run was his eighth of the season. The three-run blast gave the Cubs a 6-3 lead in the seventh inning. It was Happ’s second home run in his last three games and third consecutive game with at least two hits. Happ’s wRC+ on the season is up to 115, which is the same as his career wRC+. • Crushed in short outing
Gray (2-3) allowed nine runs on 11 hits in three-plus innings Monday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Mets.

Advice: Gray never found his footing Monday and the Mets took advantage. Most of the damage came during a six-run second inning and his night was finished after allowing a two-run shot to Brandon Nimmo in the fourth. Gray had allowed nine earned runs over his previous 50 innings before Monday's brutal outing. His season ERA shot up from 2.17 to 3.31 as a result. Gray's next outing is projected to be in Milwaukee. Assad struck out at least seven batters for the fourth time in his last five starts. His ERA is now 2.75 on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home this weekend.

  • Picks up three hits, stolen base
De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Pirates.

Advice: For the fifth time this season, De La Cruz got three hits in a game. He has multi-hit games in three of his last four and a stolen base in his third straight. The 22-year-old now has 37 steals in 72 games this season, which puts him on pace for 82 by the end of the campaign. The speedster carries a .242/.340/.447 slash line with 12 home runs and 31 RBI. • Lindor has four-hit game in win Monday
Francisco Lindor went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and two RBI against the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Lindor raised his average to .242, which is the highest it’s been all season. He isn’t having his best season, but his wRC+ is up to 116, which isn’t far away from the 121 wRC+ he had last year. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago
  • Nimmo has three hits, four RBI in win Monday
Brandon Nimmo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run and four RBI against the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Nimmo is now 10-for-17 (.588) with six runs scored and seven RBI over his last four games. His average is up to .240 with a .756 OPS and 39 RBI on the season. It’s been a down season for Nimmo, a career .266 hitter, but he seems to be turning it around at the plate lately.

  • Gray hammered in loss to Mets Monday
Jon Gray allowed nine runs in three innings and took the loss against the Mets on Sunday.

Advice: Gray gave up 11 hits, walked none and struck out two. Ouch. Gray’s ERA jumped up from 2.17 to 3.31 with this blow up. He probably didn’t deserve that 2.17 ERA to begin with given his xFIP was 3.52 entering Monday’s start. The 32-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back against the Royals at home this weekend.
