    • Colin Rea hurls four frames in bulk relief outing
Colin Rea tossed four shutout innings on Tuesday in relief against the Phillies.

Advice: Rea took over after southpaw Jared Koenig recorded four outs to open the contest and wound up working into the late innings of an eventual extra-inning marathon. He scattered four hits and a pair of walks over his four frames of work. The 33-year-old righty has pitched well this season for Milwaukee, but it hasn’t translated into much for fantasy managers given his lack of strikeouts. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

    • David Peterson holds Nationals to two runs in win
David Peterson pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball for the victory as the Mets topped the Nationals 6-3 on Tuesday.

Advice: Peterson has been known to walk a few, but the Nationals decided to be particularly aggressive at the plate tonight, allowing the left-hander to get 20 outs on just 81 pitches. All five hits he gave up were singles, and the second run he allowed was the product of a Joey Gallo grounder hitting first base and bouncing a mile into the air. Pete Alonso would have made the play otherwise, and Peterson probably would have gotten through seven having surrendered just one run. Peterson has a 3.09 ERA in two starts since coming off the IL. We wouldn’t totally trust him as a mixed-league starter, but he’s not a bad play with the Marlins on the docket next week. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago

    • Aaron Ashby might start Wednesday vs. Phillies
Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Aaron Ashby could start on Wednesday against the Phillies.

Advice: Ashby has already joined the Brewers in Philadelphia and appears to be an option to take the ball for Wednesday’s series finale at Citizens Bank Park. The 26-year-old lefty hasn’t been lights-out this season at Triple-A Nashville, but Milwaukee doesn’t have a ton of options with Robert Gasser (elbow), Joe Ross (back), Jakob Junis (shoulder, head) and DL Hall (knee) all sidelined due to injury. • Jakob Junis completes two frames Tuesday at AAA
Jakob Junis (shoulder, head) struck out three over two perfect innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Junis threw 21 pitches in his first rehab outing and will likely require a handful of additional appearances prior to rejoining Milwaukee’s starting rotation mix. The 31-year-old righty has been out since early April due to a shoulder ailment and also suffered a head injury back in late April when he was hit by a ball during batting practice. • Could start Wednesday vs. Phillies
Ashby joined the Brewers' taxi squad in Philadelphia and could be formally called up from Triple-A Nashville to start or work as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Ashby appears poised to slide into the rotation spot that belonged to Robert Gasser, who is awaiting a second opinion on his sore elbow and is expected to land on the 15-day injured list and miss out on at least a couple of starts. In his lone start for Milwaukee this season back on April 9 in Cincinnati, Ashby was blitzed for eight runs (four earned) in 3.2 innings. Upon returning to Nashville after that game, Ashby continued to struggle in his subsequent seven outings at Triple-A (9.54 ERA, 2.54 WHIP and 30:30 K:BB in 26.1 innings), but he's righted the ship over his past two starts. He delivered his best performance of the season in his most recent of the two starts last Friday versus Memphis, striking out five over seven scoreless frames while allowing two hits and three walks. With Gasser set to go on the shelf and the Brewers still waiting on Joe Ross (back), Jakob Junis (shoulder) and DL Hall (knee) to return from the IL, Ashby could be in store for multiple turns through the rotation if he fares reasonably well Wednesday. • Facing hitters Wednesday
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Mahle (elbow) will face live hitters Wednesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bochy noted that Wednesday's workout will be the first of four live batting practice sessions that Mahle will complete as he works his way back from his May 22, 2023 Tommy John surgery. If Mahle incurs no setbacks during the live sessions, he'll likely then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment that could last close to the maximum 30 days. Mahle looks to be tracking around a return from the 60-day injured list at some point shortly after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 4:28 pm

    • O’s finalize minor league pact with Julio Teheran
Orioles signed RHP Julio Teheran to a minor league contract.

Advice: The deal is now official. Teheran fortifies Baltimore’s injury-depleted starting rotation with some additional depth, but doesn’t offer much appeal for fantasy managers. The 33-year-old journeyman right-hander is an option to take the ball for Thursday’s series finale against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Today, 4:24 pm
    • Tommy John surgery scheduled
Javier (forearm) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to right forearm discomfort and is now set to miss the rest of the 2024 campaign. Javier will also be sidelined until at least the second half of 2025 as he rehabs from the surgery. It's been a rough week for Houston pitchers, as Jose Urquidy (elbow) is also in danger of needing the procedure. Rotowire.com Today, 3:47 pm

    • Cristian Javier to undergo Tommy John surgery
The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports Cristian Javier will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Advice: It’s a significant hit to Houston’s already razor-thin starting pitching depth as Javier has been a mainstay in their starting rotation for the last three seasons and boasts a stellar 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 27 percent strikeout rate over 501 innings (116 appearances, 82 starts) in the majors since 2020. Given the timing of the procedure, he’s likely to miss the overwhelming majority of the 2025 campaign as well. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm
