    • Huge day at plate
Goodman went 4-for-5 with two homers, a double, five RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's win over the Pirates.

Advice: Goodman got the party started with a 440-foot solo shot off Jared Jones to lead off the bottom of the third and added an RBI double in the following frame. The utility man, who drew the start at catcher on Saturday, would then top off his monster day at the plate by crushing a two-run homer in the seventh and an RBI groundout in the eighth. He finished with season highs in hits (four), RBI (five) and runs scored (three) after coming into the contest on an 0-for-14 skid to open the month of June. It also marked the first two-homer game of Goodman's career. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

    • Back with big club as 27th man
The Twins recalled Varland from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.

Advice: Varland had previously been optioned to St. Paul on Wednesday, one day after he was summoned from Triple-A to make a spot start against the Rockies. Though he delivered five shutout innings while taking a no-decision against Colorado, he'll be back with the Twins as a long-relief option Sunday, as Minnesota has designated him as its 27th man for its doubleheader with Oakland. Bailey Ober and Chris Paddack will start the first and second games of the twin bill, respectively. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

    • Continuing ramp-up process
Angels manager Ron Washington said Tuesday that Rendon (hamstring) was scheduled to field more grounders to his left and right this week before resuming running drills, MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not clear how Rendon responded to incorporating more lateral movement into his fielding work, but the 34-year-old generally looks to be trending in the right direction as he works his way back from the left hamstring strain that has kept him out since April 20. He remains without a clear target date for a return from the 60-day IL, but if he's able to increase his running work in the coming days, the Angels could begin the process of outlining a minor-league rehab assignment for the veteran third baseman. • Making fourth rehab start Sunday
Silseth (elbow) will make a rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: In the third start of his rehab assignment this past Tuesday, Silseth built up to 71 pitches, but he was blitzed for six earned runs on four hits and five walks while lasting just 2.2 innings for Salt Lake. Though Silseth appears to be fully stretched out for a traditional starting role at this point, the Angels will likely want to see him execute better at Triple-A before bringing him back in the rotation. If Silseth can keep the free passes in check Sunday, he could get the green light to return from the 60-day injured list for next weekend's Freeway Series against the Dodgers. • Picking up another start
Cannon is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Astros in Chicago, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After initially working out of the bullpen and recording a three-inning save following his call-up from Triple-A Charlotte on June 7, Cannon entered the rotation Wednesday and came through with a dazzling performance, striking out seven while limiting the Mariners to one run on four hits and one walk over seven innings. He'll stick around in the rotation on the heels of the stellar showing, and Cannon could get at least one more start beyond Tuesday with Mike Clevinger (elbow) unlikely to return from the injured list until the final week of June. Cannon will tentatively line up for a two-start week, with his second outing likely to come next Sunday in Detroit. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
    • Narrowly misses quality start
Blach (3-4) picked up the win over the Pirates on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Blach was effective early, striking out the first two batters he faced in the contest and going 1-2-3 through the first two frames. He would go on to surrender a solo homer to Nick Gonzales in the fourth and a second run in the sixth, but the lefty was able to hang out to earn his fourth win of the season and his first in the month of June. Blach has gone at least five innings in five straight outings, issuing multiple walks only one time over that stretch. However, he's also given up at least seven hits in three consecutive starts. • Paid for walks
Henry allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings in Saturday's 9-2 loss to the White Sox.

Advice: The left-handed Henry was slated to be the bulk pitcher but was not brought into the game until the sixth inning, as Chicago loaded its lineup with all right-handed batters. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo sent a slew of righties to the mound before Henry, who entered with the Diamondbacks still in the game, down 4-2. He got through his first inning before giving up two walks and a three-run home run in the seventh. Two innings later, his third walk allowed trotted home on another home run. Henry has allowed seven runs on eight hits and five walks over 6.1 innings since being called up for his second stint in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 5:45 am

    • Plays field Saturday
Thomas (hamstring) started in center field and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in the Arizona Complex League on Saturday.

Advice: Thomas played the second game of a rehab assignment and first in the field. He tested the hamstring, moving up a base on two wild pitches before scoring on an infield groundout. Thomas was eventually removed after three plate appearances and five innings. He'll be off Sunday before playing a third game in the ACL on Monday then move to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks are aiming for his return June 25, when the team begins its next home stand. Rotowire.com Today, 5:26 am

    • Wild again in defeat
Mazur (0-2) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and six walks while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings.

Advice: Mazur has struggled to find the strike zone through his first three big-league outings, racking up 13 walks over 12.2 frames. Surprisingly, none of Mazur's career-high six free passes Saturday resulted in a score -- the rookie managed to wiggle out of a constant stream of baserunners until a pair of Mets doubles in the fourth inning resulted in New York's first run. Nonetheless, Mazur isn't likely to find major-league success if he continues to issue free passes at his current rate, and he could be pushed out of San Diego's rotation if Yu Darvish (groin) is able to return to action next week.
