    • Charlie Blackmon doubles and triples in blowout
Charlie Blackmon doubled and tripled while driving in a pair of runs in a 9-1 rout of the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Blackmon also singled, and that base knock drove in a run in the fourth inning. The former fantasy star has been just so-so — at best — in 2024 with a slash of .241/.299/.370, but this does make back-to-back multi-hit games for Blackmon. There’s just not enough offensive consistency at this stage in his career to trust him as a regular option. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Brenton Doyle swats three-run homer in rout
Brenton Doyle hit a three-run homer in a blowout win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Doyle blasted a homer off Keaton Winn with a pair of runners on to extend the Colorado lead to 6-1. The 25-year-old has shown vastly improved pop in the early portion of 2024, as he’s up to four homers and a .455 slugging percentage. It’s probably not sustainable — and the numbers have already dropped after a red-hot April — but it’s nice to see offensive progress from a player who was not an effective hitter whatsoever in 2024, even while playing in some of the friendliest confines for half of his games. • Three-hit game for Ezequiel Tovar against Giants
Ezequiel Tovar picked up three hits and scored a run in a victory over the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Tovar singled twice and also doubled. The RBI came on that double in the fourth inning, and he’s up to eight two-baggers with 13 RBI over the first 36 games of 2024. Tovar still has work to be done, but at the age of 22, he’s got time to figure it all out. A .269/.314/.400 slash gives you an idea of what he’s capable of in the coming seasons. • Conforto hits solo homer in loss to Rockies
Michael Conforto homered while going 2-for-3 in a blowout loss to the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Conforto also drew a walk, so a nice day for him on a day where the rest of the Giants were not very good. The 31-year-old connected on a solo homer off Cal Quantrill and now has seven homers and 20 RBI in the first month-plus of the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago
    • Cal Quantrill pitches well again in win over SF
Cal Quantrill held the Giants to just one run Thursday over six innings while picking up a win for the Rockies.

Advice: Quantrill scattered five hits with three walks, and he struck out five. As seen from the numbers above there was some traffic, but Quantrill was able to make enough key pitches to limit the damage while picking up another victory. That makes back-to-back effective starts for the 29-year-old, as he has given up just one run over his last 13 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 3.94. The Rockies are going nowhere, but Quantrill will be an intriguing trade target if he keeps this up. His next chance comes Tuesday against the Padres. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Keaton Winn can’t get out of fourth in loss
Keaton Winn gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings Thursday while picking up a loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Oof. Winn was fine over the first three innings. He was anything but in the fourth. The Rockies ended up picking up seven off the right-hander, and while he threw 39-of-51 pitches for strikes, he also only picked up one strikeout and didn’t fool the Colorado hitters — particularly in that fourth inning. That’s back-to-back clunkers for Winn, and his ERA has ballooned to 5.63 in the process. It’s really not a good idea to use him next week in a scheduled start against the Dodgers. • Placed on 15-day IL
The Rangers placed Sborz on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right rotator cuff strain.

Advice: This marks the second time already this season that Sborz has had to spend time on the injured list due to a strained rotator cuff. His first IL stint lasted roughly two-and-a-half weeks, though it's possible the Rangers bring him back slower this time around to minimize the risk of re-injury. A corresponding move will be made ahead of Friday's game against the Rockies. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Josh Sborz lands on IL with rotator cuff strain
Rangers placed RHP Josh Sborz on the 15-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain.

Advice: The Rangers will wait until Friday’s series opener against the Rockies before making a corresponding move to fill his roster spot. Sborz’s velocity was down significantly across the board before he was lifted from Wednesday’s relief outing against the Athletics and he’s going to wind up requiring a lengthy absence. • Gio Urshela starts rehab assignment on Thursday
Gio Urshela (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Urshela has been on the shelf since late April due to a right hamstring strain. The 32-year-old veteran corner infielder will likely need a handful of rehab contests to ramp up before returning to Detroit’s lineup. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago
