    • Brenton Doyle swats three-run homer in rout
Brenton Doyle hit a three-run homer in a blowout win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Doyle blasted a homer off Keaton Winn with a pair of runners on to extend the Colorado lead to 6-1. The 25-year-old has shown vastly improved pop in the early portion of 2024, as he’s up to four homers and a .455 slugging percentage. It’s probably not sustainable — and the numbers have already dropped after a red-hot April — but it’s nice to see offensive progress from a player who was not an effective hitter whatsoever in 2024, even while playing in some of the friendliest confines for half of his games. • Not starting Thursday
Perkins isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Thursday's game against St. Louis.

Advice: Perkins has cooled off considerably after a hot start, slashing just .136/.208/.273 with two RBI across his last six games. His absence Thursday will move Sal Frelick into center field while Jake Bauers picks up a start in right field, batting eighth. Rotowire.com Today, 1:58 pm

    • Another productive performance
Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Angels.

Advice: Cruz provided the majority of Pittsburgh's offense by delivering a double with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. He's had a productive start to Pittsburgh's homestead, collecting six hits in 18 at-bats while also homering twice and driving in seven. Even more important is that he has struck out only four times in that span, a significantly decreased rate from his 34.7 percent clip this season. Rotowire.com Today, 6:43 am

    • Notches seventh save
Yates gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth inning during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the A's, recording his seventh save of the season in a 12-11 win.

Advice: It didn't seem like the Rangers would need their closer when they took a 12-7 lead into the final frame, but after Owen White gave up three straight singles to load the bases without getting an out, Yates was pressed into duty. The right-hander wound up allowing all three inherited runners to score, plus one of his own, before finally escaping the jam. It was the first run Yates had given up all season, and he sports a 0.56 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 16 innings without blowing a save. Rotowire.com Today, 6:09 am

    • Secures third victory
Rodon (3-2) earned the win over Houston on Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings.

Advice: Rodon gave up six earned runs over four frames versus the Orioles in his worst start of the campaign his last time out, but he bounced back with a strong showing Wednesday. The left-hander racked up 16 swinging strikes against the Astros, leading to his second-highest single-game strikeout total of the season. While Rodon's season ERA sits at a mediocre 3.56, that's largely due to the blowup outing against Baltimore. He has posted a 2.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB over 39 innings across his other seven starts. Rotowire.com Today, 12:25 am

    • Pops 11th homer
Henderson went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored Wednesday in a 7-6 extra-innings win over Washington.

Advice: Henderson gave Baltimore its first lead with a solo shot in the sixth inning. That snapped a seven-game stretch without a long ball for the shortstop, which was his longest homerless span of the campaign. Henderson is tied for second in the majors with 11 home runs on the season, and he's added 25 RBI, 28 runs, six stolen bases and a .271/.344/.563 slash line through 36 games. • Productive in doubleheader
Semien went a combined 6-for-10 with a solo home run and three additional runs scored in Wednesday's doubleheader split with Oakland.

Advice: Semien, who had identical 3-for-5 lines in each end of the doubleheader, homered for a second straight game in the matinee. It's been a productive two days for Semien, who had four hits and a homer Tuesday; the second baseman raised his average 38 points after going 10-for-15 over the last three games. The surge has lifted his slash line to .286/.333/.476 with seven homers, 28 RBI and 31 runs through 39 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:00 pm

    • Kirby Yates holds on for seventh save against A’s
Kirby Yates allowed one run with one strikeout in the ninth inning to record a save against the Athletics on Wednesday.

Advice: Up by five runs in the ninth, Owen White started the inning for the Rangers, but loaded the bases with no outs. Yates came on to clean it up, but gave up a sacrifice fly and a pair of hits to bring Oakland to within one run. He held on to escape the jam and end the game with his seventh save. • Suffers first loss Wednesday
Wesneski (2-1) allowed three runs on seven hits across six innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Padres. He walked one and struck out three.

Advice: Wesneski pitched well enough, logging his second straight quality start in the process, but he got no run support in the 3-0 loss. The righty now has a strong 1.59 ERA overall, though it remains to be seen if he'll stick in the rotation moving forward. Justin Steele (hamstring) just returned from the injured list Monday, and Kyle Hendricks (back) could return in the near future, possibly as soon as May 17 following a rehab start over the weekend. For now, Wesneski is slated to start again Tuesday against Atlanta, but he may shift to a long-relief role after that. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:14 pm
