• Getting rest Monday
Vierling is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Vierling will get a breather for the series opener, despite being one of the hottest hitters in the Detroit lineup at the moment. While starting each of the last seven games, Vierling recorded at least one hit and produced a .438/.455/.906 slash line overall. The 27-year-old should have a hold on a near-everyday role while he's sizzling at the plate, but his absence from the lineup Monday will open up a spot in the outfield for Akil Baddoo. • Corbin Carroll dropped to eighth in lineup
The Diamondbacks have Corbin Carroll batting eighth tonight against Giants left-hander Erik Miller.

Advice: Gabriel Moreno is batting second in his place. This might just be a special-occasion switch, since Miller is being looked at as an opener and dropping Carroll means he might not bat until righty Spencer Howard enters the game. The Diamondbacks typically dropped Carroll in the lineup against lefties last year, but that hasn’t been the case this season; he’s hit first or second against both lefties and righties, aside for a 10-game span in late April and early May in which he was dropped to the bottom of the order versus everyone. Arizona faces a lefty again tomorrow, so unless Torey Lovullo comments, we’ll have to wait and see whether this is a one-time thing, a change versus lefties or a semi-permanent move. The slumping Carroll’s batted-ball numbers got better for a time last month, even if his actual statistics didn’t. Unfortunately, though, they’ve faded again lately. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago
  • Mid-June return possible
Ross (back) will throw a bullpen session this weekend, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Ross will need to make at least one rehab start after that, but a return by mid-June is possible if everything goes according to plan. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since late May with a lower-back strain. Ross has collected a 4.50 ERA and 35:16 K:BB over 42 innings covering nine starts with the Brewers this season. • Cleared for rehab assignment
Junis (shoulder/head) is headed to Triple-A Nashville to begin a rehab assignment, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The specific date of Junis' first rehab start with Nashville isn't clear, but it's imminent. Junis has been on the shelf since early April, first with a right shoulder impingement and then with a head injury which occurred when he was hit by a ball during batting practice. It's not clear how many rehab starts he might require, but it should be at least a couple given how long he's been out. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Dealing with sore back
Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday that Bryant is not in Monday's lineup against the Reds due to a sore back, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Black noted that Bryant is "a little sore" after the 32-year-old made a twisting catch in the outfield during Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Dodgers. Bryant is consulting with doctors and trainers and is considered day-to-day for now. Jacob Stallings is serving as the designated hitter Monday, while Elehuris Montero is at first base against Reds southpaw Andrew Abbott. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Next rehab outing coming Wednesday
Rodriguez (back) is slated to make his next rehab appearance Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo as a reliever, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Though Rodriguez has started in each of his last three rehab outings, the Blue Jays want to have the right-hander get comfortable with working out of the bullpen in case he ends up being deployed in that capacity upon returning from the 15-day injured list. Even while he's set to come on in relief Wednesday, Rodriguez is still expected to increase his workload, as he's being targeted for around 55 pitches. If all goes well Wednesday, Rodriguez could make his next appearance with the Blue Jays, potentially as a replacement in the rotation for the injured Alek Manoah (elbow). Bowden Francis (forearm) also appears on track to return from the IL in the near future, and he and Rodriguez could end up forming a tandem for the fifth spot in the rotation if the Blue Jays don't want to commit to either as a traditional starter. • Jakob Junis (shoulder/head) to begin rehab assignment
Jakob Junis is off to Triple-A Nashville to begin a rehab assignment,

Advice: Junis was placed on the IL on Apr. 3 with a shoulder impingement and then suffered a head injury a couple of weeks later when he was hit by a ball during batting practice. He’s eligible to return from the 60-day IL, but he’s probably going to need at least three rehab starts first, assuming that the Brewers follow through with plans to bring him back as a starter. • Getting sore elbow checked out
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Monday that Gasser is dealing with "some tightness, soreness" in his left elbow and is in the process of receiving a second opinion, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Gasser last pitched Saturday versus the White Sox, yielding three runs over five innings of work in a no-decision. He had been lined up to pitch in this week's series in Philadelphia, but clearly his status in the short and long term is now up in the air. Gasser dealt with an elbow problem earlier this season, as well, which delayed his season debut at Triple-A Nashville. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago
  • Throws bullpen session
Kremer (triceps) threw a light bullpen session Monday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It's the first time Kremer has thrown a bullpen since being placed on the injured list May 21 due to a right triceps strain. The 28-year-old right-hander is eligible to return from the IL on June 5, though general manager Mike Elias noted Monday that Kremer will need a rehab assignment before returning to the majors. Before his injury, Kenny posted a 3-4 record over nine starts with a 4.32 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 50 innings. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago
