  • Logan Forsythe absent from Dodgers lineup
Logan Forsythe is not in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday against the Braves.

Advice: He's getting a maintenance day. Forsythe has struggled since the All-Star break, batting just .188 over 16 at-bats. Chase Utley will fill in at second and bat leadoff against Braves right-hander Mike Foltynewicz. Today, 3:35 pm

  • Angels officially release Danny Espinosa
    Angels released 2B Danny Espinosa.

Advice: Espinosa cleared waivers after being designated for assignment on Sunday. The 30-year-old hasn't hit a lick this year, batting an ugly .162 with 91 strikeouts in 228 at-bats. He'll resurface at some point but will probably have to settle for a minor league deal. Today, 2:13 pm

  • Dustin Pedroia hits three-run homer
Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Pedroia drove in nine runs during the four-game series against Toronto. He has 26 RBI in his last 20 games, matching his total from his first 59 games. Today, 2:08 pm
  • Rutledge to begin rehab assignment Thursday
Josh Rutledge (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.

Advice: He's batting fifth and DHing at home against Norfolk. Rutledge has been out a month with a concussion but appears to be on the mend. When healthy, he'll occupy a third base platoon with Brock Holt. Of course, that's assuming Boston doesn't add a third baseman at the trade deadline. Today, 1:33 pm

  • Jonathan Villar goes 2-for-5
Jonathan Villar, who didn't start Tuesday or Wednesday, went 2-for-5 as the Brewers' leadoff man Thursday.

Advice: Unfortunately, he was caught stealing on his steal attempt. Villar is hitting .250 with a .286 OBP in 72 at-bats since coming off the disabled list last month. It looked like he'd reclaim that starting job at second base when he played well in his first few games back, but he's just treading water now. Today, 1:11 pm

  • Wilmer Flores homers in Mets' comeback
Wilmer Flores delivered a pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning Thursday as part of the Mets' 3-2 win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Flores' homer tied the game off Brett Cecil. The Mets went on to win it in the ninth when Jose Reyes was credited with a game-ending infield single after Trevor Rosenthal failed to cover first base. Flores was on the bench today for the sixth time in seven games since the second half started. The Mets prefer T.J. Rivera at third base at the moment. Today, 12:39 pm

  • Rangers DFA infielder Pete Kozma
Rangers designated INF Pete Kozma for assignment.

Advice: Kozma was batting .111/.200/.194 in 41 plate appearances with the Rangers. The 29-year-old infielder has just four extra-base hits in his last 188 major league games. Today, 12:32 pm

  • Enrique Hernandez homers twice in win
Enrique Hernandez delivered a pair of solo homers Wednesday in the rout of the White Sox.

Advice: Hernandez has 10 homers in 194 at-bats this year after hitting seven in 202 at-bats in 2015 and seven in 216 at-bats last season. He's still batting just .216, and he doesn't deserve any sort of expanded role against righties. He makes for a nice bench player, though. Yesterday, 9:15 pm

  • Harrison goes 3-for-5 with a run scored Wed.
Josh Harrison went 3-for-5 and scored a run in a win over the Brewers on Wednesday.

Advice: He singled and scored the game's first run in the early going. The versatile veteran provides positional flexibility in addition to a well-rounded if not spectacular stat line. He is slashing .277/.355/.434 with 11 longballs, 41 runs scored, 31 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Yesterday, 8:45 pm
    W, 4-2 vs Mil
  • Schoop goes 3-for-4 with three RBI Wednesday
Jonathan Schoop went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: He doubled to drive in two runs in the third inning and plated another run with a single in the seventh. The 25-year-old second baseman now rocks a studly .300 batting average in addition to 18 home runs, 54 runs scored and 60 RBI. The only thing he doesn't do is steal bases. Yesterday, 7:34 pm
  • Dustin Pedroia knocks in three more runs
Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk Wednesday in the win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: It was a strong night offensively, but Pedroia lost his errorless streak, getting charged with a miscue for the first time this season (he also had one Tuesday, but Fenway official scoring was typically kind to him). Pedroia is batting .353 with three homers and 20 RBI in 16 games this month. 24 of his 49 RBI this season have some in his last 20 games. Yesterday, 7:18 pm
  • Jose Ramirez hits two-run single against SFG
Jose Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a two-run single in Wednesday's loss to the Giants.

Advice: Ramirez continues to out-and-out roll this season. In Wednesday's game, he hit a two-run single off Matt Cain in the third inning to give the Tribe a 3-1 advantage. They would hold a 4-2 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth, when the Giants broke through for three runs to flip the score. For the campaign as a whole, Ramirez is slashing a sparkling .324/.378/.580 with 17 homers, 50 RBI and 10 steals over the course of 92 games played. Yesterday, 5:18 pm

  • Cory Spangenberg whacks three-run homer
Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Spangenberg, who cracked a three-run homer off Jon Gray in the sixth inning, was essentially the entire offense for the Padres in what ended as an 18-4 demolition. He has picked up six hits in his last 15 at-bats, including a pair of three-run dingers. Yesterday, 4:06 pm

  • Yanks DFA Rob Refsnyder and Ji-Man Choi
Yankees designated INF/OF Rob Refsnyder for assignment.

Advice: Ji-Man Choi was also put on waivers Wednesday as the Yankees cleared roster space for trade acquisitions Todd Frazier, David Robertson, and Tommy Kahnle. Refsnyder holds a poor .241/.312/.332 career batting line in 94 games at the major league level, but he was a well-regarded prospect not long ago and should find interest from other teams on the waiver wire. • Johan Camargo records multi-hit game
Johan Camargo finished with a pair of singles across four at-bats in Tuesday's loss against the Cubs.

Advice: The two knocks were nice, but Camargo was also charged with an error for booting a ground ball in the field. Still, his .328 average is really nice and that's what scores fantasy points. He has recorded six multi-hit games over his past 10 outings. Yesterday, 12:51 am

  • Carlos Asuaje scores pair of runs
Carlos Asuaje finished 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's road game against the Rockies.

Advice: Asuaje's homer was his first in the majors, coming in the seventh inning off of reliever Jordan Lyles. He has back-to-back multi-hit games to raise his average 29 points, giving him a slash line of .315/.367/.452. Tuesday, 9:57 pm
  • Harrison hits two-run homer against Brewers
Josh Harrison hit a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

Advice: Harrison went deep off Brewers starter Junior Guerra in the sixth inning to tie the game. It was his only hit in four at-bats. The All-Star has had a rough go of it in the handful of games since the break, going 2-for-17, but he's still hitting .272/.352/.429 with 11 homers and 10 steals on the year. Tuesday, 9:34 pm
    W, 4-2 vs Mil
  • Harrison back in Monday's lineup
Josh Harrison is back in Monday's lineup against the Brewers.

Advice: Harrison got a bit of a breather on Sunday. He'll hit leadoff Monday against Brewers lefty Brent Suter.Daily Slant: Harrison sets up as one of the premier value plays for tonight's slate against Brent Suter and the Brewers. Not only will Harrison find himself in the leadoff spot, but he actually owns some solid power numbers against southpaws to date. Coming into tonight, Harrison is sitting on a healthy .217 ISO vs. LHP on top of a 135 wRC+. Neither offense in this game sets up as a top stack, but the RH bats on the Pirates side are squarely in play, as are the lefties on the Milwaukee side. Monday, 12:35 pm

  • Pedroia collects RBI single in win on Sunday
Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-4 and drove in a run as the Red Sox salvaged the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Advice: Pedroia delivered a run-scoring single off of Masahiro Tanaka in the sixth inning that increased the Red Sox' advantage to 3-0 and capped the scoring in the ballgame. The veteran second baseman is enjoying another terrific season, slashing .307/.385/.396 with four homers, 43 RBI and four stolen bases. Sunday, 8:16 pm
  • Cory Spangenberg mashes three-run tater
Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a triple in Sunday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Spangenberg put a loud exclamation point on a rough day at the office for Jeff Samardzija, clocking a three-run home run in the third inning to give the Padres a 7-1 lead. They would go on to win by that final score. The 26-year-old third baseman has largely been a quiet performer with the bat this season, hitting .257/.294/.381 with six homers and 23 RBI across 65 games played. Sunday, 4:47 pm
    7:15 pm @SF
  • Jonathan Villar swipes bag, fans three times
Jonathan Villar went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts and a steal in Sunday's loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Not the best of days at the office for Villar, though he did come up with his 17th steal of the season in the contest. He does not figure to approach the operatic high that were his 62 steals last season, but remains an ever-constant threat for theft when he reaches base. That does happen on occasion, but the speedy second baseman is hitting just .221/.287/.351 in 276 at-bats this season. Sunday, 2:52 pm
    L, 4-2 @Pit
  • Danny Espinosa designated for assignment
Angels designated 2B Danny Espinosa for assignment.

Advice: Espinosa has played his usual terrific defense this season, but it wasn't enough to make up for a hideous .162/.237/.276 batting line. The Angels appear poised to roll with Nick Franklin as their regular second baseman, with Cliff Pennington sprinkled in. Sunday, 9:33 am

  • Rob Refsnyder optioned to Triple-A
Yankees optioned INF/OF Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Refsnyder has played sparingly in his multiple stints in the majors this season, hitting just .135/.200/.216. He'll return to a .309/.399/.455 line at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Friday, 1:32 pm

  • Jose Ramirez goes 2-for-2 in ASG
Jose Ramirez had two singles and a stolen base in Tuesday night's All-Star Game.

Advice: Ramirez started at third base and collected hits against Max Scherzer and Carlos Martinez, but he was lifted in the bottom of the fourth for Miguel Sano, finishing the evening 2-for-2. Ramirez hit his 17th home run of the season in the Indians' first-half finale against the Tigers on Sunday. He has an outstanding .332/.388/.601 batting line in 2017. Tuesday, 9:40 pm

  • Jose Ramirez goes deep in loss to Tigers
Jose Ramirez clobbered his 17th home run of the season as the Indians dropped their first half finale to the Tigers on Sunday.

Advice: The American League's starting third baseman in Tuesday's All-Star game, Ramirez finished the first half strong by going 2-for-3 plus a walk. His two-run blast off of Michael Fulmer pulled the Tribe to within two runs at 5-3 in the seventh inning, but that would be as close as they would get. Ramirez has had an outstanding first half, slashing .332/.388/.601 with 17 homers and 48 RBI. Jul 9, 9:03 pm
