• Throwing live batting practice
Pivetta (elbow) will throw a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: If Pivetta comes out the live BP session without any hiccups, he should be cleared to make a rehab start next week. That would probably set him up to rejoin the Red Sox' rotation the following week if all goes well. Pivetta has been out since early April with a right elbow flexor strain. • Requires Tommy John surgery
Miley was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Friday and will undergo Tommy John surgery, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 37-year-old landed on the shelf with elbow swelling early in the week and had his initial MRI results come back inconclusive, but an in-person arthrogram revealed the worst-case scenario. It's a brutal development for the Brewers' rotation and Miley individually, who at this point plans to continue his career after recovering from the procedure. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

  • Making another rehab start
Manager Dave Roberts said Friday on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Buehler (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday before potentially joining the Dodgers.

Advice: The right-hander through 86 pitches and allowed five runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings Wednesday at Oklahoma City, and he'll require at least one more rehab outing before making his 2024 debut for the Dodgers. Buehler's performance in five starts during the rehab assignment has been underwhelming with a 4.86 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB over 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Seth Lugo fires seven scoreless to defeat Tigers
Seth Lugo delivered a masterful performance in Friday afternoon’s victory over the Tigers, racking up nine strikeouts over seven innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: Lugo scattered just three hits and a pair of walks on the afternoon. All of the hits that he did allow were singles, and the Tigers never really mounted a serious scoring threat against him. He got 13 swings and misses on 103 pitches on the day, posting an elite CSW of 35 percent. He has been everything the Royals could have hoped for so far — going 4-1 with a minuscule 1.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 23/9 K/BB ratio across 38 innings through his first six starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he does battle against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Wednesday. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • Reese Olson outstanding in tough-luck loss Friday
Reese Olson delivered an outstanding performance in a tough-luck loss against the Royals on Friday afternoon, allowing just one run on three hits over seven strong innings.

Advice: The 24-year-old right-hander racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. The only blemish on his day came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bobby Witt Jr. in the third inning, but that was more than the Tigers were able to muster in the ballgame. Olson generated 13 swings and misses on 100 pitches in the contest — six of those on his changeup — while registering a CSW of 30 percent. He falls to 0-4 on the season, despite a solid 3.18 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 26/11 K/BB ratio over 28 1/3 innings. He’ll hope for better run support when he takes on the Cardinals at home on Wednesday. • Facing hitters Monday
Senga (shoulder) threw an up-and-down bullpen session Thursday and is slated to face hitters Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It will be the right-hander's first time facing hitters since he was diagnosed with a shoulder capsule strain back in late February. Senga still faces a long road ahead, but he's making nice progress and shouldn't be too far off from a rehab assignment if all continues to go well. He is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible for activation until late May. Rotowire.com Today, 12:40 pm

  • Moves to injured list
The Marlins placed Luzardo on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to April 23, with left elbow tightness.

Advice: The left-hander was scratched from Friday's start against Washington due to the injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, Luzardo first felt the elbow issue while playing catch Thursday and believes it shouldn't be a lengthy absence, though he's also awaiting test results that should provide more clarity on the injury. • Marlins place Jesús Luzardo (elbow) on 15-day IL
Marlins placed LHP Jesús Luzardo on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 23, with left elbow tightness.

Advice: No surprise here. Luzardo was supposed to make a start against the Nationals on Friday, but he was scratched due to elbow discomfort and now he’ll be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. The 26-year-old said he felt the discomfort while playing catch on Thursday and feels an IL stint is more precautionary than anything else. The team is awaiting more test results, but the hope is that he only has to miss one to two starts. Rotoworld Today, 12:02 pm
