  • Stuck with loss Saturday
    Cano (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning to take the loss Saturday versus the Mariners.

    Advice: Cano allowed the first two batters to reach base in the eighth inning, giving up one run in the process. Cionel Perez also allowed an inherited runner to score, and the Orioles couldn't overcome the deficit. This is the first time Cano has given up multiple earned runs in an appearance all season, and just the second time he's given up more than one run of any kind. He's now at a 2.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB while adding two saves and 10 holds over 21.1 innings. The late-inning mix in Baltimore remains in flux, and Cano isn't doing himself any favors with three runs allowed over his last 1.1 innings across three appearances. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
  • Steady versus Rangers
    Sandoval allowed a run on three hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Saturday.

    Advice: Sandoval walked multiple batters for just the second time in his last five outings. He was able to limit the damage to an Adolis Garcia solo home run in the sixth inning Saturday, earning his second quality start of 2024. Sandoval has had plenty of ups and downs this year, pitching to a 4.59 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 53:20 K:BB across 51 innings over 10 starts.     Urena allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out three over six innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Saturday.

    Advice: Urena has allowed five runs (four earned) over 17.2 innings across his three starts, though he has just one win to show for it in that span. The lone run on his ledger Saturday came from a Taylor Ward solo home run. Urena now has a 3.29 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB over 38.1 innings across 13 appearances (three starts) this season. Dane Dunning (shoulder) and Nathan Eovaldi (groin) both resumed mound work this week as part of their injury rehab, so Urena seems likely to get another start, tentatively projected to be a tough road outing in Philadelphia.   • Crumbles in fifth frame Saturday
    Verlander (2-2) took the loss against Milwaukee on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings.

    Advice: Verlander made it through four innings without giving up a run, but things fell apart for him in the fifth. In that frame, he put the first three batters on base via a single and two walks before allowing his first run on a sacrifice fly. Verlander got another out to nearly escape the jam without further damage, but William Contreras sent him to the showers with a three-run blast to center field. Verlander was coming off his best start of the season with seven scoreless innings against Detroit his last time out, though that was preceded by a seven-run, five-inning blowup against the Yankees his previous trip to the mound.   • Comes away with no-decision
    Crawford allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Saturday.

    Advice: Nolan Gorman's second-inning solo shot was the only run on Crawford's line, but he was an out short of a quality start. It was still a good showing from the 28-year-old, who allowed a season-high four earned runs in his previous start versus the Rays. Crawford has given up one run or fewer in six of his 10 starts this season, pitching to a 2.17 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 57:18 K:BB over 58 innings this season.     Megill earned a save against the Astros on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out three baters over one inning.

    Advice: Megill gave up a two-out single to Jake Meyers but was otherwise dominant, recording all three of his outs via strikeout. He threw 12 of 16 pitches for strikes and recorded his fifth save over five appearances in March.   • Allows run, snags win Saturday
    Romero (1-0) allowed a run on three hits over one inning, taking a blown save but earning the win Saturday versus the Red Sox. He did not strike out or walk a batter.

    Advice: Romero gave up a game-tying RBI double to Rob Refsnyder in the eighth inning, but the Cardinals answered with a five-run rally in their half of the frame. This was just the fourth run Romero's allowed all year, and just the third time he's given up multiple hits in an appearance. The southpaw has been excellent in a setup role with a 1.54 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB while adding 15 holds through 23.1 innings. Romero hasn't had a chance to challenge closer Ryan Helsley for the ninth inning yet, as the back end of the Cardinals' bullpen has been one of the team's few positives in 2024.     Wilson allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday.

    Advice: Wilson was given a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but he was pulled after giving up a one-out solo homer to Jake Meyers and a two-out single to Jose Altuve. The hook eliminated the right-hander's chance to qualify for the win, and it marked the second straight outing in which he's failed to go five frames.     Advice: Mikolas threw just 79 pitches (54 strikes), so it's possible manager Oliver Marmol didn't want the right-hander to go through the order a third time in a close game. The lone run on Mikolas' line was a solo home run by Rafael Devers in the fourth inning. Mikolas has allowed three runs or fewer in six of his outings this season, but he's given up five or more runs in his other four starts.
