    • William Contreras posts two hits, doubles in loss
William Contreras went 2-for-3 with a double on Wednesday in the Brewers’ shutout loss at the hands of the Phillies.

Advice: There weren’t a ton of bright spots here for Milwaukee as Contreras supplied two of their three total hits, and lone extra-base hit of the contest, as Phillies starter Aaron Nola and a pair of relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:52 pm
    • Resting versus lefty
Kepler isn't in the Twins' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Southpaw Carlos Rodon will toe the slab for New York on Wednesday, meaning the lefty-hitting Kepler will retreat to the bench to begin the game. His absence will allow Manuel Margot to start in right field while batting in the leadoff spot. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:39 pm
    • Royals-Guardians postponed
Singer and the Royals won't play the Guardians on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Cleveland.

Advice: The Royals and Guardians will make up the postponed game as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 26 After missing his previous turn through the rotation last Thursday due to an illness, Singer was cleared to start Wednesday, but he looks like he'll have to wait until Thursday's series finale with the Guardians to make his return to the rotation. • Nolan Arenado goes deep, Cardinals edge Astros
Nolan Arenado slugged a solo homer on Wednesday, lifting the Cardinals to a 4-2 victory over the Astros.

Advice: Arenado supplied a key insurance run for the Cardinals’ bullpen with a sixth-inning solo shot off Astros starter Ronel Blanco. It was his sixth round-tripper of the season and third time he’s gone deep in his last seven contests since May 28. The 33-year-old remains stuck in one of the most challenging extended power outages of his career, but he’s shown a bit of a spark lately, and might finally be turning things around. We’ll see. • Gerrit Cole’s rehab assignment to continue
Gerrit Cole will require “at least a couple of more” rehab starts before coming off the injured list, according to manager Aaron Boone.

Advice: This was a given, but we’ll run with it anyway. Cole threw 45 pitches in 3 1/3 scoreless innings for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. He should come in closer to 60 pitches next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:59 pm

    • On base three times in loss
Bleday went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run in a loss to the Mariners on Tuesday.

Advice: Bleday produced the only multi-hit effort of the night for the Athletics and pushed his on-base percentage to an impressive .335 with his three trips on the basepaths. The 26-year-old has been wielding a particularly hot bat over the last six games, producing a .348 average (8-for-23) with two doubles, a triple, five walks and two runs while striking out at a modest 17.9 percent clip. • Rough night in Cleveland
Lugo came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Guardians, coughing up five runs on six hits and a walk over six-plus innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Kansas City staked the veteran right-hander to a 5-0 lead, but homers by Josh Naylor in the bottom of the fourth inning and Tyler Freeman in the seventh fueled a Cleveland comeback. Lugo tossed 64 of 98 pitches for strikes before exiting, as he lasted at least six innings for the seventh time in his last eight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he sports a 2.19 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB through 53.1 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Mariners. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:20 am

    • Excels in first rehab start
Cole (elbow) completed 3.1 scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, allowing two hits and striking out five batters.

Advice: In the first of what is expected to be multiple rehab outings, Cole threw 45 pitches and hit 97 miles per hour on the radar gun, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. The veteran hurler surrendered a single to the first batter he faced but yielded just one more hit over the remainder of his outing. The beginning of Cole's rehab stint couldn't have gone much better, but he's still expected to need at least a couple more appearances in the minors before he's ready to join the Yankees rotation. If he doesn't experience any setbacks, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner could make his season debut for the big club in the latter half of June. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:28 pm

    • Seth Lugo wears down late against Guardians
Seth Lugo allowed five runs on six hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Guardians.

Advice: Lugo started the game with three scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the fourth. However, he settled down and threw two more scoreless innings but the Royals brought him back out for the seventh where he allowed a single and a two-run home runs before being pulled from the game. Lugo posted a 27 percent CSW on the night and induced eight whiffs on 46 swings. He doesn’t miss many bats, but he has been tremendous this season with a 2.16 ERA. He should certainly be started this weekend against the Mariners. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:20 pm
