    • Spencer Steer snaps homerless streak Wednesday
Spencer Steer clobbered a solo homer on Wednesday in the Reds’ loss to the Padres.

Advice: Steer kicked off the scoring with a solo shot to left-center field -- his fourth round-tripper of the season -- off Padres starter Joe Musgrove in the opening frame. It was the first time he’s gone deep since April 6, snapping a bizarre 22-game homerless drought. The versatile 26-year-old on-base machine is batting .252/.364/.450 with 18 runs scored, four homers, 22 RBI and eight stolen bases through 31 contests. Rotoworld Today, 3:47 pm

    • Austin Riley powers Braves to win over Mariners
Austin Riley went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple on Wednesday, leading the Braves to a 5-2 victory over the Mariners.

Advice: Riley scalded a 102.7 mph opposite-field triple off the right-field wall in the fourth inning to give Atlanta a commanding four-run lead at the time. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart hasn’t exactly set the world ablaze in the opening month of the year, batting .235 with just two homers in 29 contests to date, but he’s still got plenty of time to get it going. We’re not concerned in the slightest after three consecutive 30-homer campaigns since 2021. Rotoworld Today, 3:26 pm

    • Receiving day off
Ruiz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: After going hitless in seven at-bats while starting behind the plate Monday and Tuesday, Ruiz will get a break Wednesday. Riley Adams will handle the catching duties for the Nationals. Rotowire.com Today, 3:22 pm

    • Begins baseball activities
Gelof (oblique) fielded grounders and played catch Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gelof was shut down for about a week after landing on the 10-day injured list last Thursday with a strained left oblique, but he's now been cleared to begin baseball activities. Hitting will be the biggest hurdle for him to clear, and it's uncertain when he might be ready to swing a bat. Gelof is eligible to return from the IL on May 15, but it's too soon to know whether he might be back by that date. Rotowire.com Today, 12:02 pm

    • Out again Wednesday
Encarnacion-Strand (hand) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Padres.

Advice: He'll miss a fourth straight start due to lingering left hand soreness following a hit-by-pitch. Encarnacion-Strand has been available off the bench the last two days and presumably will be again Wednesday. He could be back in the lineup Friday against the Orioles after the Reds' off day Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 10:56 am
    • Goes five outs for save
Munoz completed a five-out save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Atlanta, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three in the process.

Advice: Munoz was forced into the game a bit earlier than expected after Ryne Stanek allowed three base hits to turn things into a 3-1 ballgame. Munoz did allow an inherited runner to score on a throwing error but was dominant otherwise and retired the side in order in the ninth with two strikeouts. Tuesday was the fourth time this season Munoz has pitched more than three outs and it was the third consecutive save he's converted, with all three coming over the last five days. The 25-year-old now owns a 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB in 12 innings thus far. Rotowire.com Today, 4:06 am

    • Could be back for weekend series
Javier (neck) could be activated from the injured list and start during Houston's weekend series against Seattle, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Javier threw a bullpen session Sunday and is expected to throw again either Wednesday or Thursday. That will likely determine his status for the weekend, though it appears that Javier will be able to avoid a rehab stint even if his absence extends later into May. • Andrés Muñoz gets five-out save against ATL
Andrés Muñoz pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to get a save against Atlanta on Tuesday.

Advice: Muñoz did allow an inherited runner to score with a throwing error. After that snafu the right-hander was absolutely dominant while picking up three strikeouts along with his fifth save of the season. Muñoz does have occasional hiccups with his command, but there aren’t many pitchers in baseball who have better swing-and-miss stuff. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:47 pm

    • Mitch Keller gives up three runs in loss to A’s
Mitch Keller dropped to 2-3 after allowing three runs in five innings Tuesday against the A’s.

Advice: Keller struck out seven tonight, so that’s not bad. Still, he should have far better than a 5.18 ERA while facing a pretty easy schedule to date. His slider is just broken, and his lack of a true offspeed pitch has caught up to him big time. There’s still plenty of hope here for the long run, but we’d feel better about him if he pitched for a team with more of a clue. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:38 pm
