    • Goes seven innings in win
Wheeler (6-3) earned the win Thursday over the Rangers, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out five.

Advice: After Adolis Garcia led off the second inning with a home run, Wheeler held the Rangers off the board until Ezequiel Duran's two-out RBI single in the seventh. It's the sixth win in Wheeler's last seven starts -- he's pitched at least seven innings in back-to-back outings and three of his last four. His ERA sits at 2.53 on the season with a 0.98 WHIP and 76:21 K:BB in 67.2 innings. Wheeler's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Giants in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:57 pm
    • Zack Wheeler fires seven strong in win over Rangers
Zack Wheeler held the Rangers to two runs over seven innings while picking up a win Thursday.

Advice: Wheeler scattered five hits with two walks, and he struck out five. The blemishes on the scoreboard came on an Adolis Garcia homer in the second and an infield single by Ezekiel Duran in the seventh. Outside of that, it was another strong outing for the 33-year-old that sees him lower his ERA to 2.53 as he worked at least seven innings for the third time in four starts. He’s scheduled to get the Giants on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:16 pm
    • Rays activate Shane Baz, option him to Triple-A
Rays activated RHP Shane Baz from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz was strong in his last outing and had gotten up to 76 pitches. However, his command still needs to be refined as he works back from Tommy John surgery. Baz is likely to make a few starts in the minors and, provided they go well, could join the Rays’ rotation at some point in June. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:12 am

    • Activated, optioned to Triple-A
The Rays reinstated Baz (elbow) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz has been on the injured list all season while completing the final stages of recovery from his July 2022 Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old righty started four games at Triple-A during his rehab assignment, posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.92 WHIP while striking out eight batters and walking 11 through 12 innings. He'll remain with Durham despite being fully recovered, though there is still a possibility he contributes to the Rays' pitching staff later this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:08 am

    • Shane Baz continues to improve in rehab starts
Shane Baz allowed one run on three hits in four innings for Triple-A Durham on Wednesday night.

Advice: More importantly, Baz was up to 76 pitches and induced 14 whiffs in just four innings on the day. He had a 66 percent strike right but his overall command still needs some work, walking three batters and hitting one. His stuff has graded out above-average but command is often the last thing to come back after Tommy John surgery, so we’ll hope that he can iron that out in his next starts. He may have one more rehab start before being activated off his rehab assignment, but we shouldn’t expect more than five innings in his few first outings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:50 am

    • Homers in loss
Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Alonso opened the scoring in the first inning, sending a fastball from Triston McKenzie into the right-field seats for his 11th homer of the year. The 29-year-old Alonso has put together an eight-game hitting streak while going 18-for-59 (.305) with three homers and a .936 OPS in his last 14 contests. He's now slashing .236/.313/.466 with 24 RBI and 28 runs scored through 214 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:28 am

    • Getting rest Thursday
Polanco is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: After missing seven consecutive starts due to a right hamstring injury, Polanco made his return to the lineup in Wednesday's 7-3 loss, starting at second base while going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. The Mariners haven't indicated that Polanco experienced a setback with his hamstring Wednesday, so his absence Thursday is likely just a matter of maintenance due to the quick turnaround for the series finale, which begins at 12:35 p.m. ET. Dylan Moore will fill in for Polanco at the keystone. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:18 am

    • Completes four innings
Baz (elbow) allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four across four innings during a rehab start with Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Advice: This was Baz's best rehab appearance since starting the assignment May 4. He's still fighting his control, as he has walked 11 batters across 12 innings, though that shouldn't come as a significant surprise given his lengthy layoff since last pitching in a meaningful game. The Rays will likely want him to make at least one more start in the minors, but he could rejoin the big-league rotation in early June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:10 am

    • Hitless in return
Polanco (hamstring) went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: This was Polanco's first game action since he suffered the injury May 13 versus the Royals. The infielder is down to a .187/.291/.300 slash line with five home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored and one stolen base over 172 plate appearances. While he has yet to get his bat going in his first season with the Mariners, he's likely to reclaim a starting role at second base. If he can't start hitting better, Polanco could be pressured for playing time by Josh Rojas and Dylan Moore now that the Seattle lineup is at full health. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:37 pm
