      Zack Wheeler allowed eight earned runs in 4 1/3 innings on Sunday in a loss to the Orioles. He struck out four and walked two.

      Advice: This was Wheeler’s worst start as a Phillie and the first time he’s allowed eight earned runs since 2018. Baltimore jumped on him with homers in each of the first three innings and then Jordan Westburg put the cherry on top with his three-run blast.       Steven Kwan went 4-for-5 with one RBI against the Blue Jays on Sunday.



      Advice: Kwan is hitting a ridiculous .398 on the season now. It’s probably not sustainable as his BABIP is .418 compared to his career .320 BABIP, but Kwan benefits from his low seven percent strikeout percentage. He’s going to put the ball in play a lot and right now everything is finding a hole.

    • Beginning rehab assignment Tuesday
      Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Contreras (forearm) is likely to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with either Triple-A Memphis or Double-A Springfield, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Contreras reached a meaningful milestone in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm by taking batting practice earlier in the weekend, and with the veteran backstop apparently coming out of the workout without any renewed soreness, he looks like he's ready for game action. Because he's been on the shelf since May 8, Contreras could stay on his minor-league rehab assignment throughout the week before potentially returning from the 10-day injured list before the end of June.       Verlander (neck) played catch Sunday and manager Joe Espada left the door open for Verlander to return to Houston's rotation this week against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: It sounds like Verlander is already feeling better after he was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to neck discomfort. If he responds well in the coming days, the three-time Cy Young winner could return for a prime matchup in Chicago, though Espada said it's still up in the air.       Advice: The Astros won’t announce their rotation for the upcoming games against Chicago just yet, largely (entirely) because the status of Verlander is up in the air. The future Hall of Famer was scratched from Saturday’s start against Detroit with discomfort in his neck, and he hasn’t been particularly effective when on the mound.       Advice: Contreras has made a rapid recovery from surgery to repair his fractured forearm, and what looked to be an injury that would keep him out through the All-Star break now appears to be one where he could be back as the Cardinals backstop in the next week.       Polanco (hamstring) started at designated hitter in High-A Everett's win over Eugene on Saturday and went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.

      Advice: Polanco was lifted for a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, but he got a solid amount of plate appearances in during his first game action of any kind since May 26. The veteran infielder is slated to play with the AquaSox again Sunday before shifting his rehab assignment to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, per Ryan Division of The Seattle Times.
