    • Begins rehab assignment
Friedl (wrist) began a rehab assignment Thursday and is 1-for-7 with a walk over two games for Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Friedl, batting in his customary leadoff spot, played seven innings at shortstop Thursday and a full game Friday as the designated hitter. Reds manager David Bell told Mike Petraglia of MLB.com that he'll have a better idea of Friedl's return timeline by the end of the weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:27 am

    • Jake Fraley (illness) returns to action on Friday
Jake Fraley (illness) returned to the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s contest against the Orioles.

Advice: Fraley missed the better part of three weeks while battling the illness that was making its way through the Reds’ clubhouse — then developed bronchitis after returning to the lineup for a couple of days. It’s strange to see him in the lineup against a left-hander, but fantasy managers have to be pleased to see his name in the lineup card at all these days. He’ll bat eighth against Cole Irvin and the Orioles. Rotoworld Friday, 1:53 pm

    • Double, RBI in loss
O'Neill went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and an RBI in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Giants.

Advice: O'Neill had a terrific first month in a Boston uniform and continues to outperform his career standards. The outfielder has a 1.096 OPS, second in MLB behind only Mookie Betts. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:16 am

    • Tyler O’Neill drives in run, reaches three times
Tyler O’Neill drove in a run while reaching three times in a loss to the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: O’Neill was responsible for the only run of the game for the Red Sox with a double off Kyle Harrison in the third that scored Rafael Devers. O’Neill was also able to draw a pair of walks, and he improves his line in 2024 to .309/.429/.667. Calling his first month-plus as a member of the Red Sox is quite the understatement. • Reds send TJ Friedl (wrist) on rehab assignment
Reds sent TJ Friedl (wrist) on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Two weeks ago, Reds manager David Bell said that Friedl could get a rehab assignment soon and the team are sticking to that timetable. Friedl fractured his right wrist during spring training, but there hasn’t been any setbacks in his recovery, so seeing him get some live reps is a positive sign. Friedl had his best season in 2023 where he had career-highs in almost every statistical category. Rotoworld Thursday, 8:45 am

    • Cleared for rehab assignment
Friedl (wrist) was sent to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl suffered a small fracture of the distal radius of his right wrist back in mid-March, but he's finally made enough progress in order to be cleared to play in games. Given how much time he's missed, Friedl will likely require a good number of rehab at-bats in the minors before returning from the 10-day injured list. The Reds' outfield situation is already crowded, but Friedl should play on a regular basis -- at least against right-handed pitching -- once he's activated. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:44 am

    • Sits against right-hander again
Fraley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: For the second straight day, Fraley finds himself on the bench with a right-handed pitcher (Joe Musgrove) on the hill. The Reds haven't indicated that Fraley is nursing an injury, but the outfielder has thus far struggled to bounce back since returning to the lineup after a week-long absence due to an illness. In his first three games back in action, Fraley went 0-for-11 with five strikeouts. If Fraley is unable to show improvement in his subsequent starting opportunities, he could fade into more of a part-time role for Cincinnati. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:47 am

    • Ramping up baseball work
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Tuesday that Robert (hip) is taking batting practice and running at 80 percent, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: The 26-year-old is about halfway through the short end of his initial recovery timeline of 6-to-8 weeks, and he appears to be a bit ahead of schedule. Robert could be ready to rejoin the White Sox in mid-May, but the organization is likely to remain cautious as he ramps up his baseball activities over the next couple weeks. • Jake Fraley goes hitless in sixth straight game
Jake Fraley went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Monday, leaving him hitless in a sixth straight game.

Advice: Fraley was off to a terrific start and had a case to take over as the Reds’ leadoff man, but he went hitless in three games before missing time with an illness and has remained hitless in three games since returning. He’s struck out in five of his eight at-bats the last two days, and his OPS has dropped from 1.065 two weeks ago to .773 now. Rotoworld Monday, 11:05 pm
