    • Downplays shoulder injury
Turnbull said after Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Tigers that he felt "a little grab" in his right shoulder during his penultimate pitch of the third inning but noted that he isn't especially concerned about the injury, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Making his first start for the Phillies since April 30 as a replacement in the rotation for Taijuan Walker (finger), Turnbull struck out two and allowed one run on one hit and two walks before leaving the game following the bottom of the third inning. The Phillies labeled his injury as a sore shoulder, but he'll undergo further testing Thursday as the team looks to get a more precise diagnosis. The upcoming tests should also help clarify whether Turnbull will be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation, which would fall next week in Chicago at Wrigley Field. Michael Mercado would likely be the next man up to enter the rotation if Turnbull needs to join Walker on the 15-day injured list. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago

    • Another rehab start Thursday
Kremer's (triceps) next rehab start with come Thursday at Triple-A Norfolk, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Kremer really struggled in his second rehab outing, allowing five runs while recording just two outs. He got his pitch count to 59 in his first rehab start but was pulled from the second outing after throwing just 39 pitches due to a stressful first inning. It's possible Kremer will be ready to rejoin the Orioles' rotation next week, although that decision depends on how he looks Thursday and how much he can get stretched out. The righty has been out since late May with a right triceps strain. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

    • Luis Ortiz posts seven strikeouts in win over Reds
Luis Ortiz notched seven strikeouts and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Reds.

Advice: After serving up six runs over four innings last Friday in relief against the Rays, Ortiz rebounded in this one by authored a brilliant performance against the division-rival Reds. He generated an eye-popping 19 swinging strikes, with seven of those coming on his slide alone, and finished with a robust 34 percent CSW. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen flashes of potential from the hard-throwing 25-year-old former top prospect, but he’s worth monitoring moving forward in the event that Pittsburgh starts to lean on him more as a traditional starter. The addition of a cutter to his arsenal this season has made him less reliant on his four-seam fastball/slider combo, especially against southpaws. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

    • Graham Ashcraft allows two homers in loss to Pirates
Graham Ashcraft was lit up for six runs over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Ashcraft’s struggles with keeping the ball in the yard persisted in this one as he surrendered nine hits, including a pair of homers. He was in the contest early before giving up a solo shot to Rowdy Tellez, a two-run blast to Andrew McCutchen and was charged with a couple additional runs when reliever Justin Wilson coughed up a two-run double to Jason Delay following his departure. The 26-year-old righty has been hit hard in 13 starts this season with an inflated 5.45 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 52/22 K/BB ratio across 67 2/3 innings of work. He’s not a recommended fantasy option if the Reds elect to hand him the ball on Tuesday against the Yankees. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Joining rotation Sunday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Winckowski will start Sunday's game against the Padres in Boston, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Due to off days Thursday and next Monday, the Red Sox didn't need to add a fifth starter to the rotation until July 6, but manager Alex Cora is electing to bring Winckowski in the rotation early. Brayan Bello had been lined up to start Sunday's game, but he'll instead get pushed back to next Wednesday in Miami and have extra time to regroup after he was lit up for seven earned runs over 2.1 innings in a loss to Toronto on Wednesday. While coming on in relief of Bello on Tuesday, Winckowski struck out eight and allowing two earned runs in six innings, so he looks to be fully stretched out enough to head into Sunday's start without any restrictions with his pitch count. Winckowski has previously made three starts with the big club this season, posting a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 10.2 innings. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

    • Undergoing MRI on forearm
Smith will undergo an MRI after feeling tightness in his right forearm while playing catch Wednesday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Smith missed a chunk of time earlier this season with a shoulder problem and now has another arm issue to contend with. The righty has been a high-leverage reliever for the Mets this season when healthy, posting a 3.06 ERA and 23:9 K:BB over 17.2 frames. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

    • Trent Thornton bails out Andrés Muñoz against Rays
Trent Thornton tossed a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Rays to record his first career save.

Advice: Thornton was brought on to guard a four-run lead with the bases loaded in the final frame after Andrés Muñoz issued a pair of walks and also hit a batter to open the ninth inning. It technically qualified as a save situation since the tying run was in the on-deck circle. He got Richie Palacios to ground into a fielder’s choice before coaxing a game-ending double play from ensuing batter Amed Rosario to put out the fire and preserve the win. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago
    • George Kirby flummoxes Rays over six frames in win
George Kirby struck out seven and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Rays.

Advice: Kirby coughed up an early run-scoring single to Yandy Díaz, but managed to keep Tampa Bay’s lineup quiet from the third inning onwards to net his seventh win of the season. He induced 13 swinging strikes, including six on his four-seam fastball, and finished with a pedestrian 28 percent CSW. Of course, he also didn’t hand out a free pass in this one. It wasn’t his most dominant effort of the season, but was more than enough to lead Seattle to a much-needed win. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts dating back to May 29. He’ll carry a strong 3.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 96/9 K/BB ratio across 99 1/3 innings (17 starts) into a tough come outing on Wednesday against the Orioles. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

    • Ryan Pepiot strikes out eight on Wednesday vs. Mariners
Ryan Pepiot recorded eight strikeouts and allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

Advice: Pepiot carried a shutout into the sixth inning before being lifted from the contest at 88 pitches (54 strikes) after issuing a one-out walk to J.P. Crawford. He wound up being charged with that run when reliever Shawn Armstrong served up a three-run homer to Cal Raleigh later in the frame. The -year-old righty generated 15 swinging strikes, including nine on his four-seam fastball alone, and finished with a respectable 29 percent CSW. It was a nice effort from Pepiot considering he failed to complete five frames in each of his previous two outings. He’ll bring a 4.40 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 83/25 K/BB ratio across 71 2/3 innings (14 starts) into a strong road matchup on Wednesday against the Royals. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago
