    • Rosenthal: Gil could move to pen when Cole returns
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees “are likely to ‘back off’ on Luis Gil in order to have him as a factor for the playoffs.”

Advice: On one hand, backing off Gil makes some sense. The 25-year-old has already thrown 49 innings this season and has not thrown more than 96 innings in any season since 2019. However, when Yankees manager Aaron Boone was asked about his plans for Gil, he mentioned that Gerrit Cole is likely four to six weeks away from returning, which is an eternity during a baseball season. Moving Gil to the bullpen could make sense on the surface, but it’s impossible to tell what position the Yankees rotation will be in by the time Cole comes back. As a result, it’s too early to make a move for your fantasy teams. Rotoworld Today, 10:31 am

    • Blake Snell is headed to the paternity list
Padres place LHP Blake Snell on the paternity list.

Advice: Congratulations to Blake and his family. The left-hander will miss the next few games to be with his partner and should return in time to face the Phillies. Perhaps they will be kind to the new father as he looks to lower his 11.40 ERA and 2.07 WHIP. Nick Avila was called up in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 9:00 am

    • Missing another start
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: He'll remain on the bench for a 10th consecutive game while he continues to heal up from a left intercostal strain. Atlanta had initially viewed Riley as day-to-day when he departed an April 12 game against the Mets with the injury, but the club likely would have placed him on the 10-day injured list had they known the issue would have kept him out for more than a week. Riley was able to exhibit a sign of progress by taking swings on the field Tuesday, but it's not clear if he'll be on track to rejoin the starting nine during this weekend's three-game series in Pittsburgh. • Goes on paternity leave
The Giants placed Snell on the paternity list Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Snell will be off the active roster for a few days while welcoming a new baby, but he's expected to rejoin the Giants in time for his next start, which is slated for Monday against the Phillies at Oracle Park. Reliever Nick Avila was called up from Double-A Richmond to take over Snell's spot on the 26-man active roster. Rotowire.com Today, 8:11 am

    • Four hits including first homer
Arraez went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: The 27-year-old led off the game with his first homer of the season as he produced his seventh straight multi-hit performance. Arraez has been raking since being traded to the Padres, slashing .391/.425/.478 in 73 plate appearances, and with Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) facing a lengthy absence, he should be locked in as San Diego's everyday second baseman. • Corey Seager gets a day off on Thursday
Corey Seager is not in the starting lineup for the Rangers’ game against the Phillies on Thursday.

Advice: It’s a day game after a night game in conditions that figure to be wet and gross, so it’s the perfect time to give Seager a breather. The shortstop has been heating up of late, hitting a home run in each of the last three games and six in his last 16 days. Even with the slow start to the season, his plate discipline metrics remained elite, so it was only a matter of time before he started to put up early-round fantasy value. • Day off Thursday
Seager is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Philadelphia.

Advice: Seager has hit home runs in three straight games, but he will be given a breather Thursday as the Rangers go up against Zack Wheeler and the Phillies. Josh Smith will slide over to shortstop and Ezequiel Duran will occupy third base while Seager rests. Rotowire.com Today, 7:33 am

    • Another three-hit performance
Diaz went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the Athletics.

Advice: Diaz jumped on a hanging slider from Mitch Spence in the first inning and crushed it over the wall in center field to give the Rockies an early 2-0 lead. The catcher would then add a single and a double in his next two at-bats, giving him his second-consecutive three-hit performance. Diaz has been on a tear in May, batting .370 with two homers, nine RBI and five runs scored while also posting eight multi-hit games. Rotowire.com Today, 4:22 am

    • Christian Walker homers in win over Dodgers
Christian Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a double, and two runs scored on Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Walker led off the sixth inning with a solo homer off Elieser Hernández to extend the Diamondbacks’ lead. He later doubled in the eighth and scored on a passed ball. The 33-year-old first baseman is pacing right in line with his 2023 season, hitting .257/.358/.458 with 10 homers and 32 RBI across 215 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:02 pm
