      Advice: Javier landed on the IL on April 21 due to neck discomfort. He made one rehab start with Double-A Corpus Christi on May 4, throwing 68 pitches while allowing three runs on three hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. To make room on the 40-man roster for Javier, Houston designated right-hander Brandon Bielak for assignment.       Advice: Javier will take the ball on Saturday evening against the Tigers at Comerica Park following a nearly three-week absence due to neck discomfort. The 27-year-old righty isn’t expected to have any workload restrictions in his return from the injured list and should jump right back into fantasy manager’s lineups.       Valdez (2-1) earned the win Friday over the Tigers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Valdez allowed two runs on a Matt Vierling double in the third inning before blanking Detroit over his final four frames en route to his second victory of the year. It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Valdez, who allowed five runs in a loss to Seattle in his previous start. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 3.64 with a 1.35 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across five starts (29.2 innings).       Framber Valdez pitched well in Friday night’s victory over the Tigers, allowing only two runs on six hits over seven frames.

      Advice: Valdez walked two and punched out four on the night. He surrendered a two-run double to Matt Vierling in the third inning, but kept the Tigers’ off the board the remainder of his night — affording his offense the opportunity to come back and earn him a win, which they finally did in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old southpaw got 10 swings and misses on 103 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing as he carries a 3.64 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 23/9 K/BB ratio (29 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Athletics.       Advice: Greene's final line ultimately could've looked a lot worse after he issued a season-high five walks. The 24-year-old Greene has given up nine free passes over his last two starts (10.2 innings), though he's managed to hold opponents to just three runs in that span. Overall, he's 1-2 on the season with a 1.24 WHIP and 53:21 K:BB through eight starts (45.1 innings). Greene's currently slated for a rematch with the Diamondbacks on the road in his next outing.       The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Athletics’s asking price for flame-throwing closer Mason Miller is steep.

      Advice: Rosenthal adds that a team source indicates no team has come close to meeting Oakland’s astronomical asking price. The 25-year-old starter-turned-closer has been phenomenal this season, with a microscopic 1.10 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 33/4 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (13 appearances). It’s entirely possible that no team will come close to coughing up enough prospect capital to make a deal happen, but Miller figures to be at the epicenter of rumors leading up to the trade deadline later this summer.     • Hunter Greene strikes out six, walks five in loss
      Hunter Greene surrendered three runs in five innings with six strikeouts in a no-decision Thursday versus the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Greene allowed four hits, but he also issued five walks with 40-of-84 pitches landing outside of the strike zone. The right-hander had his swing-and-miss stuff, and he was able to work around those free passes with a scoreless second-through-fifth inning. The free passes hurt the WHIP, but this start could have been a lot worse. Greene gets a rematch with Arizona next week. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:28 pm

      Miller fired two perfect innings during which he recorded four strikeouts in the first game of a doubleheader against the Rangers on Wednesday.

      Advice: Miller had last taken the hill May 1, so manager Mark Kotsay opted to give his closer some much-needed work with the Athletics up by five runs. The extended layoff didn't seem to faze Miller in the least, as he located 24 of 32 pitches for strikes in a relatively efficient showing. The hard-throwing right-hander lowered his ERA and WHIP to 1.10 and 0.67, respectively, and with the Athletics much more competitive than expected thus far, Miller's prospects for save opportunities over the long term are brighter than when the season began, despite the recent stretch of inactivity.
