• Pirates option Alika Williams to Triple-A
Pirates optioned INF Alika Williams to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder didn’t do much in 51 plate appearances with the big league club, slashing .239/.271/.348 with zero homers, two RBI and a 9/2 K/B ratio. He’ll continue to function as extra infield depth for the Pirates at the Triple-a level. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

  • Pirates recall Nick Gonzales from Triple-A
Pirates recalled INF Nick Gonzales from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: The 24-year-old infielder was punishing the baseball once again at the Triple-A level, hitting .358 (43-for-120) with four homers in his first 30 games. He’ll once again be given a shot at securing the team’s everyday job at second base. Alika Williams was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

  • Zack Gelof (oblique) begins rehab assignment
Zack Gelof (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Advice: The dynamic 24-year-old infielder will play in games on Friday and on Sunday before being re-evaluated. If all goes well, there’s a chance that he could return to the A’s lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Astros in Houston. Before landing on the injured list, Gelof was hitting .196/.260/.337 with three homers, seven RBI and four stolen bases in 101 plate appearances. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

  • Patrick Bailey (concussion) to return on Saturday
Patrick Bailey (concussion) is expected to be activated from the injured list on Saturday.

Advice: The 24-year-old backstop caught a bullpen session for Blake Snell on Friday without any issues, which was the final hurdle to clear before returning. Expect Jakson Reetz to be optioned back to Triple-A Sacramento to clear a spot on the active roster. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Jason Heyward (back) nearing rehab assignment
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that Jason Heyward (back) will begin a rehab assignment at some point next week.

Advice: The 34-year-old outfielder has been sidelined since the beginning of April due to stiffness in his back. He has been making progress in recent weeks though and is on track to return to the Dodgers’ lineup before the end of May barring any setbacks. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Lung Hoo Lee (foot) remains out of Giants’ lineup
Jung Hoo Lee (foot) remains out of the Giants’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Reds.

Advice: Lee also sat out Thursday’s game due to a sore foot. Giants’ skipper Bob Melvin said Friday that Lee may need an additional day off on Saturday, but that he should be able to return after that and won’t require a trip to the injured list. Let’s hope that’s the case and it doesn’t turn into an Jorge Soler (shoulder) situation. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

  • Day off Friday
Renfroe isn't in the Royals' lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Renfroe will get a chance to regroup Friday after going 0-for-10 across his last three games. Dairon Blanco will cover right field instead and bat eighth. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • Optioned to Triple-A
Lynch was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Lynch will return to Omaha after tossing five scoreless innings in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Rangers and two perfect innings in Thursday's 10-4 win against the Angels. With Alec Marsh (elbow) being activated Friday, Lynch was the odd man out in Kansas City and he'll now have to wait for his next chance to join the major-league roster. The left-hander has struggled to a 5.86 ERA over 27.2 innings in six starts at Triple-A this season and he'll look to find a groove ahead of his next call up down the road. • Clears IL
The Royals reinstated Marsh (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Marsh made his lone rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on May 5, striking out six and giving up one hit and one walk over four shutout innings while throwing 53 pitches. To make room for Marsh, the Royals optioned southpaw Daniel Lynch to Triple-A Omaha. Marsh will take the mound and start in Friday's series opener against the Angels. Rotowire.com Today, 4:14 pm
