    • Road struggles continue
      Kirby (4-4) suffered the loss Sunday against the Orioles, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Kirby was tagged for a solo homer by Gunnar Henderson to lead off the game and eventually allowed five runs and two homers through three innings before settling down and making it through six frames with no additional damage. It was the first time in seven starts Kirby has allowed more than five hits, while the five earned runs lifted Kirby's ERA to 3.99 over 56.1 innings and 5.19 over 26 innings on the road. Kirby's next start is also slated to take place on the road, though in a much friendlier matchup, as he's tentatively lined up to take on the Nationals in Washington next weekend.       Advice: Seager's solid May continues -- he has gone 17-for-64 (.266) with four homers and nine RBI over 17 contests this month. The shortstop provided the Rangers' lone run against Jose Soriano. Seager's had a down year across the board with a .247/.338/.371 slash line, six homers, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored and three doubles through 44 games.       Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Cubs.

      Advice: Reynolds has swiped two bags over his last three games, and he's hit safely in five straight contests (6-for-21). The outfielder isn't one to run a lot -- he had a career-high 12 steals in 145 games last season, so he's roughly on track to match that number in 2024 after picking up his fourth theft of the campaign Sunday.       Advice: Seager’s home run was a 352-foot shot at 101.9 mph off the bat that actually had an xBA of just .250, but he’ll take it. He’s now up to six home runs on the season and his .247/.338/.371 triple slash is certain to rise as he gets going, but it’s been a disappointingly slow start for the 30-year-old.     • George Kirby gives up two homers in loss
      George Kirby surrendered five runs in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Orioles.

      Advice: Kirby seemed pretty unlucky in a couple of his early-season starts that left him with an inflated ERA, but the Orioles knocked him around pretty good today. He allowed two homers among 11 hard-hit balls, and he struck out only three. The loss leaves him 4-4 with a 3.99 ERA, though his ERA is 2.50 over his last six starts.     • Taking on 'fluid' role
      Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Diaz's bullpen role will be more "fluid" for the near future, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 30-year-old surrendered four runs in his third blown save of the season Saturday and admitted that his confidence is down with seven runs allowed in his past three outings, so the Mets won't rely on him to be their primary closer for a bit. Diaz is still viewed as the club's closer long term but is now likely to see some lower-leverage work in an attempt to get him back on track.       Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Edwin Diaz’s role with the Mets is “fluid.”

      Advice: Fluid, by definition, is not very concrete. Díaz has been horrific over the last week, as he’s seen his ERA jump up to 5.50 from the 2.13 mark he had entering the month by allowing runs in three consecutive appearances. The 30-year-old looked the part prior to these struggles and it’s worth noting he’s a hurler who missed all of 2023 thanks to a fluke injury. Díaz probably won’t be on the mound for the next save chance for the Mets, but New York is going to do everything in its power to try and get the right-hander back on track.       Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a run in a win over the Orioles on Saturday, extending his hitting streak to six games.

      Advice: Much like his season as a whole, Rodriguez's night was a bit of a mixed bag, as he also struck out in his other three plate appearances. Nevertheless, the talented outfielder now boasts a .417 average (10-for-24) during his aforementioned six-game streak, although eight of those hits have been singles.
