      Irvin (5-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell 5-0 to the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: A lack of offensive support gave the right-hander no margin for error, but Irvin did himself no favors by tossing first-pitch strikes to only 11 of the 22 batters he faced and issuing a season high in free passes. In fact, the 27-year-old hadn't walked more than two batters in any 2024 start prior to Tuesday.       Houck didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Toronto, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Houck ended up one out shy of a sixth consecutive quality start, getting pulled at 103 pitches after yielding an RBI single to Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Houck has struck out five or more batters in seven straight starts and owns a 4-2 record with a 2.17 ERA across 45.2 innings during that stretch.     • Houck allows two earned runs as Red Sox top Jays
      Tanner Houck allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday’s win over the Blue Jays.

      Advice: Houck gave up two runs in the second after Ernie Clement laced a double to right to give the Blue Jays their first runs of the night. He would be pulled in the sixth after an RBI single by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but things could’ve been much worse for Houck, who allowed nine baserunners on the evening while throwing 103 pitches.     • Irvin gives up four runs in loss to Diamondbacks
      Jake Irvin allowed four earned runs on eight hits over five innings while striking out two in Tuesday’s loss to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Irvin allowed the first three batters he faced to reach base, but it was the two-run homer by Ketel Marte that put him in a hole early. Irvin would go on to pitch two scoreless innings before surrendering two more runs in the fifth, which would be his final inning. It was just the second time this year that Irvin has allowed four or more runs in an outing, as he’s been one of the core members of a Nationals rotation that has surprised in the first half of the season.       Hader allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out two in the ninth inning Sunday against the Tigers.

      Advice: Hader entered the game with the Astros up 4-0 and allowed consecutive hits with one out to surrender the earned run. He's given up at least one earned run in three of his last 10 appearances, though he has maintained 14:1 K:BB across 9.2 innings in that span.       Jax allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in an 8-7 win over the Athletics in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.

      Advice: Jax hadn't logged a save since May 10, but he received the opportunity to do so Sunday after Jhoan Duran closed out the matinee game. While the two relievers initially shared closing duties early in May, Duran has been the Twins' main closer for about a month while Jax has settled into a setup role.       Griffin Jax picked up his sixth save of the season on Sunday night, working a scoreless ninth inning against the Athletics to preserve a one-run advantage.

      Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander got the call after Jhoan Duran closed out the first game of the doubleheader earlier in the afternoon. He did allow a one-out single to JJ Bleday that put the tying run on base, but battled back to get Miguel Andujar on a fly ball to center field and Tyler Soderstrom on strikes to end it. Jax has been a key cog in the Twins’ bullpen this season, posting a 2.30 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and a 43/8 K/BB ratio (31 1/3 innings) while recording six saves and three victories.       Cease (6-6) took the loss as he went 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and three walks Sunday versus the Mets.

      Advice: From the jump, Cease just didn't have his best stuff Sunday, as he allowed the first four hitters to score after serving up homers to Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. The 28-year-old gave up a season-high seven runs in what was his shortest outing of the campaign. After pitching to a 2.19 ERA over his first eight starts, the righty has run into a rough patch, giving up at least three runs in six of his last seven starts and seeing his ERA climb to 3.95 in the process.       Dylan Cease allowed seven earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Mets. He struck out five, walked three, and was tagged with the loss.

      Advice: The Mets jumped all over Cease with a four-run first inning and sent him packing before he could finish four innings. His command was poor overall and he served up meatballs to Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso that found the seats.
