    • Cora: Tyler O’Neill to undergo imaging on knee
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Tuesday that Tyler O’Neill will undergo additional testing on his right knee.

Advice: O’Neill has been sent back to Boston to undergo additional imaging for precautionary reason to rule out anything significant. The 28-year-old slugger has missed three straight contests due to right knee soreness, but it sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list. There’s a chance he’s back in Boston’s lineup when they return to Fenway Park for Thursday’s series opener against the Tigers. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:46 pm

    • Sent for imaging on knee
O'Neill has been sent back to Boston to receive imaging on his sore right knee, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated that it's more for peace of mind than a worry that O'Neill is dealing with a significant injury, but it's still not an encouraging development. O'Neill will miss out on a third straight start Tuesday against the Orioles, and it's safe to assume he won't play in the series finale in Baltimore on Wednesday, either. The Red Sox will begin a homestand Thursday versus the Tigers. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:42 pm

    • Tyler O’Neill (knee) remains out Tuesday vs. O’s
Tyler O’Neill (knee) is not in the starting lineup against the Orioles on Tuesday.

Advice: O’Neill will miss his third straight game after being removed from Saturday’s game with right knee soreness. Rob Refsnyder is the designated hitter against Baltimore, and he’ll hit third against Grayson Rodriguez and the Orioles pitching staff. Rotoworld Tuesday, 12:12 pm

    • Remains out Tuesday
O'Neill (knee) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Orioles.

Advice: O'Neill had said previously that he was aiming to return to action Tuesday after missing two games with a sore right knee, but he'll instead begin a third straight contest on the bench. Rob Refsnyder is occupying the designated hitter spot for the Red Sox on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:10 pm

    • Could return this week
Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Friedl (thumb) could return as soon as late this week or early next week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Just six games into his return from a fractured right wrist, Friedl suffered a broken left thumb as a result of a hit-by-pitch. Fortunately for Friedl and the Reds, it doesn't sound like he will have to miss nearly as much action this time around. Bell has already said he thinks Friedl could bypass a rehab assignment. • Tyler O’Neill (knee) out of the lineup on Monday
Tyler O’Neill (knee) remains out of the lineup on Monday against the Orioles.

Advice: O’Neill exited Saturday’s game against the Brewers with right knee soreness and has now missed two straight games. The Red Sox haven’t expressed any concern and perhaps a few days off is just what the 28-year-old needs. O’Neill has struggled since missing a little over a week with concussion symptoms after a collision with Rafael Devers in left field. In 111 plate appearances since then, O’Neill is slashing .200/.279/.380 with four home runs, nine RBI, and a 40.5 percent strikeout rate. It’s hard to know which of these ailments is impacting him the most, but he’s clearly not fully healthy right now. Rotoworld Monday, 8:31 am

    • May not need rehab
Friedl (thumb) has started hitting off a tee and may not require a rehab assignment, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Apparently, Friedl is progressing at such a rate that manager David Bell feels he can avoid any detours and jump back into the majors. The outfielder, who missed the first six weeks of the season with a wrist injury, made just 24 plate appearances before suffering a fractured left thumb. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:37 am

    • Sitting vs. southpaw
Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox.

Advice: With the White Sox sending left-hander Garrett Crochet to the mound Sunday, the lefty-hitting Mullins will take a seat for the second straight game. Mullins pinch hit in the seventh inning in Saturday's 5-3 win, striking out in his only at-bat. Rotowire.com May 26, 9:13 am
    • Targeting return Tuesday
O'Neill (knee), who is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, is expected to remain on the bench for Monday's series opener in Baltimore before returning to the starting nine for Tuesday's game versus the Orioles, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The Red Sox don't view O'Neill's sore right knee as a major concern and think he'll need to miss just two starts due to the issue before returning to the starting nine as either a designated hitter or corner outfielder. Garrett Cooper will enter the lineup in O'Neill's stead Sunday, occupying the DH spot and batting third. Rotowire.com May 26, 9:06 am
