    • Diagnosed with Grade 2 lat strain
Jones will be shut down for two weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 right lat strain, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Jones will be re-evaluated after those two weeks before the next steps of his rehab are determined. The rookie right-hander suffered the injury during his last start Wednesday against the Cardinals and was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Given the ramp-up that will be required after the shutdown period, it seems safe to rule Jones out for at least the remainder of July. Rotowire.com Today, 12:56 pm

    • Becoming free agent
Festa elected free agency Friday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Festa was designated for assignment by the Mets on Wednesday and will try his luck on the open market. The 31-year-old only pitched one inning with New York and allowed four runs. However, he has a solid track record in the majors and should garner some interest in free agency. Rotowire.com Today, 12:47 pm
    • Shifted to 60-day IL
The Phillies transferred Ortiz (shoulder/ankle/forearm) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Ortiz has been out virtually all season with injuries, first to his ankle and more recently his shoulder and forearm. This transaction doesn't alter his timetable since he's eligible for activation at any time, but it's not clear when Ortiz might be ready to pitch again. Rotowire.com Today, 12:42 pm

    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Phillies optioned Marte to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Marte had pitched two of the last three days, so the Phillies are replacing him with a fresh bullpen arm. Tyler Phillips will take Marte's spot on the 26-man roster. Rotowire.com Today, 12:39 pm

    • Officially activated
Hoeing (hamstring) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and is starting Friday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Hoeing has been shelved since May 3 with a strained left hamstring and after making five rehab appearances since June 14, he'll rejoin the active roster. While the 27-year-old is listed as Miami's starting pitcher, he shouldn't be expected to handle a typical starters' workload considering he hasn't completed three innings in any of his rehab outings and was used out of the bullpen before being injured. That being said, Hoeing has been utilized as a starter in previous seasons and could see multiple starts given the Marlins' numerous pitching injuries. Rotowire.com Today, 12:22 pm

    • Heading back to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Tyler to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

Advice: Tyler had made three straight starts with the Marlins, allowing five runs across 15.0 innings with nine strikeouts. However, the 27-year-old will give up his spot on the active roster to Bryan Hoeing (hamstring), who'll be activated from the IL to start Friday's game against the White Sox. • Sent down to minors
The Rays optioned Sterner to Triple-A Durham on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Sterner was up as bullpen protection for a couple days but didn't make an appearance. Shane Baz -- who will start Friday's game against the Rangers -- will fill Sterner's roster spot. Rotowire.com Today, 10:01 am
    • Officially recalled for start
The Rays recalled Baz from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: He will start Friday in Texas against the Rangers, taking the rotation spot vacated by Aaron Civale, who was traded to the Brewers earlier this week. Baz will be making his first major-league start since July 2022, as he missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The young right-hander had been heating up at Durham in June, collecting a 1.57 ERA and 35:10 K:BB across 23 innings. Baz will have a good shot to remain in the Rays rotation for the rest of the season and needs to be picked up in most fantasy leagues where he's still available. Rotowire.com Today, 9:59 am

    • Chris Paddack (arm) could rejoin Twins Monday
RHP Chris Paddack (arm) could be back with the Twins as early as Monday.

Advice: Paddack was placed on the 15-day injured list with arm fatigue retroactive to June 22nd. His time on the IL will be up on Sunday. The Twins sent down David Festa and replaced him with a bullpen arm, which could be a sign that Paddack is ready to rejoin the Twins rotation as early as Monday. Paddack is 5-3 with a 5.29 ERA in 15 starts with Minnesota this year. Rotoworld Today, 9:58 am
