    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Rangers optioned Duran to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Advice: Duran had a nice first full season with the Rangers in 2023, slashing .276/.324/.443 with 14 home runs and eight stolen bases. His follow-up in 2024 has not been as successful, as he sports just a .256/.294/.324 line with two home runs and one steal over 58 contests. Duran could still play a prominent role with the Rangers later this season, but for now he'll try to get back on track in a less-pressurized environment. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

    • Tim Anderson sits Wednesday against Royals
Tim Anderson is on the bench for the second time in four days Wednesday against the Royals.

Advice: The Marlins have treated Anderson as an everyday player throughout his struggles, but it looks like that might be changing now. Before being excluded from Sunday’s lineup, he had sat just three times this year, not including his IL stint and his three days of bereavement leave. Anderson actually heated up some a couple of weeks ago, but it was all singles; in 10 games from June 11-21, he hit an amazing .405/.405/.405. He’s since gone 0-for-11 to tumble back to .220/.244/.234 overall. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago
    • Gets green light to start Friday
Scherzer (thumb) is listed as the Rangers' probable starting pitcher for Friday's game in Baltimore, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer returned from the 60-day injured list to make his 2024 debut for the big club this past Sunday and was in vintage form in a win over the Royals, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out four. Though he experienced no setbacks in his return from offseason back surgery nor the nerve problem in his right arm that cropped up in late April, Scherzer was pulled earlier than expected from Sunday's outing due to thumb soreness. Per McFarland, Scherzer was able to complete a 25-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, and while the right-hander acknowledged he was still contending with some soreness in the thumb, it doesn't look as though it'll prevent him from making his second start of the season this weekend. • Expects to swing bat soon
Jung (wrist) said Wednesday that he expects to resume swinging a bat in a few days, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Jung was examined Tuesday in Phoenix by the doctor that performed his right wrist surgery. While the third baseman has had his activation from the 60-day injured list pushed back a bit due to inflammation in the wrist, he's been told everything is sound structurally. Jung's return has effectively been ruled out through the weekend, but it's possible he's back shortly after that. More should be known regarding a potential timetable in the coming days. • Nick Loftin gets start at third base Wednesday
Nick Loftin is in the lineup as the Royals’ third baseman Wednesday against the Marlins.

Advice: Loftin was serving as the Royals’ starting second baseman until Monday, when Michael Massey’s return as a DH and CJ Alexander’s promotion resulted in Maikel Garcia moving to second and Loftin hitting the bench. Loftin is back out there today, but he’s playing Garcia’s old spot, with Garcia remaining at second. At this rate, it’s easy to imagine Loftin getting sent back to Triple-A when Massey is deemed ready to return to the field or when Adam Frazier comes off the IL, whichever happens first. • Scoreless frame in rehab debut
Muller (shoulder) fired a scoreless inning during Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Sacramento on Tuesday, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

Advice: Muller kicked off his rehab assignment in solid fashion, successfully working around a single and getting through his one frame on 10 pitches. The left-hander is due to make multiple appearances for the Aviators before activation is considered, although he may not need more than a couple of more outings considering he won't need to build up much as a result of his relief role. • Hitting bench after two straight starts
Alexander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: After being called up from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, Alexander started at third base in the first two games of the Royals' series with the Marlins, going 0-for-6 with a pair of strikeouts. He'll take a seat Wednesday while Nick Loftin occupies third base, and it's possible the two could be part of a timeshare at the hot corner until Michael Massey is cleared to play the infield again after he served as Kansas City's designated hitter in his first two games back from the injured list. • Battling knee tendinitis
Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario is dealing with knee tendinitis that is "progressively not getting better" and "maybe a bit worse," Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Candelario -- who is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Pirates -- was removed from a game last week with the knee issue, and it has continued to nag at him. Bell noted that Candelario is still able to play but added that the infielder will be re-evaluated later Wednesday as the club decides how to best handle the situation. With Noelvi Marte looking likely to return from an 80-game suspension Thursday to provide the club another option at third base, it's possible the Reds will choose to put Candelario on the injured list if they determine his knee would improve with some extended rest. • Throws bullpen Tuesday
Stripling (elbow) was able to complete a bullpen session before Tuesday's game against the Angels and is set to throw another Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The veteran right-hander came away feeling healthy from Tuesday's activity, and he's expected to throw 30-35 pitches in his session Saturday. Assuming that bullpen also goes off without a hitch, Stripling could be deemed ready to face hitters at some point during the subsequent week. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago
