    • Sits down Saturday
Wells isn't in the Yankees' lineup Saturday against the White Sox.

Advice: Wells dropped to 5-for-25 (.200) since the start of May after going 0-for-3 during Friday's series opener. He'll get a breather Saturday and give way to Jose Trevino, who will bat eighth. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

    • Swipes second bag
Pham went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and his second stolen base of the season in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: The veteran outfielder thrived once again in the leadoff spot. Pham has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, slashing .385/.429/.538 over that stretch with a homer, two steals, four runs and seven RBI. Luis Robert (hip) could be back by the end of the month, and while his return might bump Pham to an outfield corner, he's playing too well right now to lose his starting spot completely. • Goes deep again
Ortiz went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double in Friday's loss to Houston.

Advice: Ortiz knocked a double in the third inning before giving Milwaukee a short-lived lead with his three-run shot in the fourth. Unfortunately, he was later caught stealing after a single during his otherwise terrific performance. He's gone 8-for-14 (.571) with two homers and three doubles over his last four games and four of his five long balls this season have come in the last nine games. Ortiz owns an impressive .296/.397/.561 slash line with 14 extra-base hits, a 16:20 BB:K and 15 RBI through 116 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 5:17 am

    • MLB to investigate David Fletcher for gambling
Major League Baseball is opening an investigation into David Fletcher’s alleged involvement with the same California bookmaker that also took illegal wagers from Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, according to Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Advice: ESPN.com’s Tisha Thompson first reported on Friday night that Fletcher bet on sports, but not baseball, with the same California bookmaker — Mathew Bowyer — that took wagers from Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. The 29-year-old infielder played for the Angels from 2018-2023 and could wind up facing league discipline. It’s legal for players to bet on sports other than baseball, but not with an illegal bookmaker. Rotoworld Today, 4:15 am

    • Jordan Walker batting .328 at Triple-A Memphis
Jordan Walker went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Friday for Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Just like that, Walker is batting .328 (19-for-58) with zero homers and two steals in 15 contests since being jettisoned to the minors back in late April following a brutal stretch at the dish to open the season. It’s easy to forget that Walker is still just 21 years old and still finding his footing at the highest level. He was an impact fantasy contributor last year when he returned from an early-season demotion and appears to be following a similar track this time around as well. Rotoworld Today, 3:25 am

    • White Sox outright Rafael Ortega to Triple-A
White Sox sent OF Rafael Ortega outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: Ortega went unclaimed after being placed on waivers earlier this week. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder went 1-for-14 with a pair of stolen bases in 14 contests this season for the White Sox. Rotoworld Today, 3:20 am

    • Lars Nootbaar leads Cardinals past Red Sox
Lars Nootbaar homered, walked twice and scored three runs as the Cardinals bested the Red Sox 10-6 on Friday.

Advice: The Cardinals offense is bad, but Nootbaar is good, and the decision to drop him to the bottom of the order earlier this month was yet another poor one from Oli Marmol. Fortunately, Nootbaar is back batting second versus righties now. The homer was his fourth in 131 plate appearances. He’s hitting .300 with three homers and a 6/10 K/BB in his last nine games. • Masyn Winn collects first homer of 2024
Masyn Winn’s first homer of the season with was a two-run shot off Boston’s Cam Booser in Friday’s win.

Advice: Winn hit the ball 402 feet, which was far and away his longest drive of the season. He previously had a 379-foot double off Sean Manaya, but he hadn’t hit anything else over 350 feet in 142 plate appearances. Winn has been perfectly solid in batting .280/.343/.384 this year, but his profile doesn’t suggest that he’ll be hitting many more homers in his first full season. • Connor Wong collects four hits versus Cardinals
Connor Wong finished 4-for-5 with an RBI against the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: Statcast thinks Wong has been one of the game’s most fortunate hitters this year, but the luck shows no signs of stopping. His exit velocity numbers remain mediocre, but he has shown some legitimate improvement in terms of contact ability. With the Red Sox hitting him third of late, he’s a top-12 catcher for the moment.
