Grissom, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right hamstring strain, is slated to undergo an MRI, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. "We're not there yet," manager Alex Cora said, when asked about a timeline for Grissom's return. "He feels like it wasn't as bad as in spring training. But he's getting imaging so we'll know."

Advice: Grissom's upcoming MRI should shed light on the severity of the hamstring strain he sustained in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers. As Cora notes, Grissom was previously slowed by a left groin/hamstring injury in spring training, which prevented the 23-year-old from making his Red Sox debut until May 3. For whatever length of time Grissom is sidelined this time around, Enmanuel Valdez is likely to serve as the Red Sox's primary second baseman against right-handed pitching, while Jamie Westbrook should be the main option at the keystone versus lefties. King came away with a no-decision Sunday against the Royals, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings.

Advice: King was sharp, not allowing an extra-base hit and turning in another quality start, his fifth over his past six contests. The 29-year-old snapped a three-game streak allowing a home run, something he has struggled with all season -- his 1.8 HR/9 ranks in the ninth percentile. On the whole, King has been solid this season, recording a 3.82 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with a 78:31 K:BB across 73 innings. Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers plan to option slumping first baseman Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Torkelson, the top overall selection from the 2020 draft, has slashed a miserable .201/.266/.330 through his first 230 plate appearances with only four homers, 18 RBI and a 56/16 K/BB ratio. He has been especially bad as of late, mired in a 3-for-33 (.091) funk with a 13/3 K/BB ratio over his last nine games. Griffin Canning was terrific in a losing effort against the Mariners on Sunday afternoon, allowing just one run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander struck out four batters on the day and issued just one walk — to the final batter that he faced. The lone tally against him came on a 354-foot solo shot off the bat of Luke Raley in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, that was enough to hand him the loss as the Angels couldn’t scratch out a single run of support for him. It’s the first time all season that Canning has recorded an out in the seventh inning. He got 11 whiffs on 93 pitches on the day — seven on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 29 percent. Michael King allowed one run on four hits in seven innings in a no-decision against the Royals.

Advice: King was all set to record the win with the Padres up 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. However, with their bullpen being taxed heavily over the last few days, the Padres had to go with Yuki Matsui to close the game, and he allowed three runs while only recording one out. King was only able to induce eight whiffs on 48 swings for a 17 percent whiff rate and 24 percent CSW, but he allowed an average exit velocity on all batted balls of just 84 mph.
