    DJ LeMahieu will hit ninth and play third base in his return from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

    Advice: LeMahieu will make his season debut after missing exactly two months of the season with a fracture in his right foot. The 35-year-old could have some rust to shake off from such a long absence — even with a lengthy rehab assignment — but hitting ninth will give him a chance to be driven in by the top of the New York lineup.   • Did some light running Monday
    Nootbaar (hamstring) hit in the batting cage and did some light running prior to Monday's game against the Reds, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Nootbaar tweaked his hamstring while legging out a triple in Saturday's game against the Cubs and has since sat out the last two games. The outfielder told Denton that he should be ready to return to the lineup whenever the Cardinals are ready to put him back in there. Worth noting is that St. Louis is slated to face a left-hander Tuesday and also has an off day Thursday, factors which could weigh into their decision as to when to re-insert Nootbaar.     Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

    Advice: Mendoza offered that Alvarez will catch 5-to-7 innings in his first game with Binghamton and build up from there. Alvarez is five weeks removed from undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb.   • Francisco Alvarez (thumb) starting rehab Thursday
    Francisco Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday.

    Advice: That according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who also told reporters the catcher is expected to be behind the plate for five to seven innings. Alvarez was able to take batting practice over the weekend, and the 22-year-old backstop was reportedly hitting the ball hard as he works his way back from the thumb injury that has kept him out since April.     The Twins transferred Topa (knee) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday with left patellar tendinitis.

    Advice: The right-hander was diagnosed with a small tear in the patellar tendon of his left knee in mid-May and isn't expected to resume throwing for another month, so a move to the 60-day IL isn't much of a surprise. Topa was a key bullpen piece for Seattle last season with a 2.61 ERA and 24 holds in 75 appearances, but he's been sidelined by knee issues since late in spring training and won't be debuting for Minnesota until midseason, at least.
