      Kopech gave up a run on two hits and a walk over 1.1 innings Friday to record his eighth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Marlins. He struck out one.

      Advice: With two on and two outs in the ninth inning, Kopech gave up an RBI single to Bryan De La Cruz, but he then got Josh Bell to ground out to escape the jam. Kopech isn't exactly locked in right now, stumbling to a 6.91 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB over his last 14.1 innings while blowing three of six save chances, but the White Sox seem content to deploy him at the team's closer for now, perhaps in an effort to increase his trade value.       Foley allowed two runs on four hits but managed to secure the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds.

      Advice: Foley started the ninth inning with a 5-2 lead but was generally ineffective as he allowed Cincinnati back into the game before eventually escaping. Despite the blip, the righty has been mostly solid this year, compiling a 3.26 ERA across 30.1 innings and recording 14 saves in 16 chances.       Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.

      Advice: Hoskins opened July in an 0-for-13 skid before the grand slam in his second at-bat Friday. The blast gave the Brewers a 5-2 lead, but they mustered just one hit after that.       Alex Verdugo went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts as the Yankees’ cleanup hitter Friday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: Verdugo homered in his first game against his former team last month, but that’s the only homer he’s hit in five weeks since May 29. He’s hitting a modest .244/.301/.392 for the season, and he’s fortunate Jasson Dominguez’s oblique injury has left the Yankees with no quality replacements for him in left field.     • Rhys Hoskins hits grand slam in loss to Dodgers
      Rhys Hoskins connected on a grand slam, but the Brewers fell to the Dodgers on Friday.

      Advice: Hoskins took Tyler Glasnow deep with the bases loaded in the fourth to give Milwaukee a 5-2 lead. It also gave Hoskins his 12th homer of the season and brought his RBI total to 57.       Gausman (6-8) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Mariners.

      Advice: Gausman allowed a two-run double to Luke Raley in the third inning, and that was enough to stick him with his fourth loss in five outings. This was his third 10-strikeout game of the year, as well as his third quality start over his last seven games.       Kevin Gausman struck out 10 over six innings of two-run baseball, but took a look Friday to the Mariners.

      Advice: Gausman had the swing-and-miss stuff going and took advantage of a lineup that strikes out more than anyone in baseball. The right-hander allowed only a two-run double to Luke Raley in the contest, but unfortunately that was enough to pick up the loss with Luis Castillo holdin the Blue Jays to just one run. It’s still nice to see a strong outing from Gausman considering how mediocre he’s been for the majority of 2024, as his ERA is still a disappointing 4.64 on the campaign.     • Jason Foley miraculously escapes with save Friday
      Jason Foley surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth inning on Friday night, but managed to miraculously escape with a one-run lead intact against the Reds to earn his 14th save of the season.

      Advice: Foley came on with a three-run lead to protect in the ninth inning, but immediately made things interesting by allowing an infield single to Elly De La Cruz — who then stole second and took third on a balk. Spencer Steer smacked a one-out RBI single to make it a bit closer and Nick Martini followed with an RBI triple that put the tying run at third base with only one out. Tyler Stephenson then hit a ground ball to third, where Blake Dunn was cut down at the plate attempting to score. Foley then allowed a single to Noelvi Marte before finally getting Santiago Espinal to ground out to first to end it. Foley now sports a 3.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 24/9 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings on the season to go with 14 saves and a pair of victories. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:46 pm

      Michael Kopech slammed the door on the Marlins on Friday night, navigating a tumultuous ninth inning to preserve a one-run victory.

      Advice: The 28-year-old hurler picked up his eighth save of the season for his efforts. As always, it wasn’t easy for Kopech, as he allowed a leadoff walk to Xavier Edwards to bring the tying run to the plate. He battled back though to get Vidal Brujan to bounce into a fielder’s choice and Nick Gordon on a called third strike before allowing a single to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and an RBI single to Bryan De La Cruz. Not to worry though, as he bore down to get Josh Bell on a ground ball to first base to end it. Kopech now sports a 4.58 ERA on the season to go with eight saves in 12 chances.
