      Ragans (4-4) took the loss Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Ragans stranded a runner in all five of his innings pitched and had a difficult time getting through a Twins lineup that featured seven righties and a pair of switch hitters. The southpaw relied heavily on his ability to miss bats, inducing 14 whiffs and generating seven or more strikeouts for the fifth time in his last six starts.       Gibson (4-2) earned the win Tuesday over Cincinnati, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Gibson was excellent Tuesday, as he held the Reds to one hit until Will Benson ended his shutout bid with a homer in the sixth inning. The 36-year-old Gibson has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine outings. He's lowered his ERA to 3.60 with a 1.22 WHIP and 52:25 K:BB across 11 starts (65 innings) this year. Gibson's currently in line for a road matchup with the Astros in his next outing early next week.       Cole Ragans allowed nine hits and three earned runs over five innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Twins.

      Advice: Ragans ran into trouble in the first inning when he allowed back-to-back hits to his first two batters faced, only to see both players score on a Jose Miranda single a few batters later. Ragans would allow another run in the fourth on a Manuel Margot double, as the left was hit around for much of the evening. His nine hits allowed tied for the second-most he’s allowed on the season, as Ragans has struggled at times to limit base runners despite a solid 3.49 ERA.     • Kyle Gibson keeps Reds bats in check in win
      Kyle Gibson allowed just one run on two hits in six innings in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.

      Advice: Gibson struck out six and walked one and the only real damage was a solo home run to Will Benson in the sixth inning. The 36-year-old posted an impressive 15 whiffs for a 34 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW. Gibson used all six of his pitches on the night, and had a 38 percent whiff rate on the sweeper while his cutter pounded the strike zone for a 41 percent CSW.       Jones and the Pirates will not play the Tigers on Tuesday due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

      Advice: Tuesday's contest will be made up during a doubleheader Wednesday, and Jones will presumably pitch one of the two games.       Valdez (3-3) took the loss against Seattle on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

      Advice: Valdez looked to be in for a rough night after giving up three runs on four hits in the first inning, but he settled in from there and yielded just two hits and no runs the rest of the way. That allowed him to squeak by with a quality start, though he nonetheless ended with his second straight loss. Valdez gave up eight runs over five frames against the Angels in his previous appearance, so this was a decent bounce-back despite the difficult first inning.       Framber Valdez surrendered three runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Mariners.

      Advice: All of the runs scored in the first, an inning that could have been much worse if Jake Meyers didn’t cover half of the outfield to chase down a Cal Raleigh fly with the bases loaded. Valdez still gave up four hits that inning, but he allowed just two more the rest of the way. Nevertheless, he still took the loss in a 3-2 game, leaving him 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA for the season.       Quantrill (4-3) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Phillies.

      Advice: Quantrill held the Phillies off the scoreboard through three frames before giving up a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. He forced 18 whiffs, blowing by his previous season high of 12. Quantrill produced his fifth straight quality start, going 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA during that span. Prior to this hot streak, he was 0-3 with a 5.34 ERA to begin the year. Quantrill now owns a 3.53 ERA and a 49:23 K:BB through 63.2 innings.
