    • Nails down 15th save
Holmes picked up the save over the Padres on Saturday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Holmes made it look easy Saturday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth on a total of just seven pitches to record his 15th save of the season. The right-handed reliever has now converted his last two save opportunities after surrendering four runs to the Mariners on May 20, striking out at least one batter in each of those appearances. Holmes sits just one save behind Emmanuel Clase (16) for the American League lead after Saturday's outing. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:40 am

    • Secures save No. 14
Finnegan struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning against the Mariners on Saturday to earn his 14th save of the season.

Advice: Finnegan dotted the inside corner to strike out Cal Raleigh before getting both Mitch Garver and Julio Rodriguez to ground out. With that, Finnegan is now up to 14 saves, two behind Emmanuel Clase and Ryan Helsley for the MLB lead. His last save prior to Saturday was May 14, as he went a while without being used and squandered a save chance, but Finnegan has only strengthened his grasp on the closer job in Washington with his performance this season. In turn he's also given the organization leverage in trade talks that will inevitably take place this summer. Rotowire.com Sunday, 12:55 am

    • Holmes picks up 15th save on Saturday
Clay Holmes tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Padres on Saturday.

Advice: Holmes pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning and struck out one on his way to his 15th save of the season, which is second among closers in all of baseball. He blew a save earlier this week, but has since bounced back with a four-out save and a clean ninth inning save. Holmes figures to continue racking up saves the way the Yankees’ season is going. • Kyle Finnegan handles M’s in ninth to get save
Kyle Finnegan didn’t allow a hit while picking up save Saturday against the Mariners.

Advice: Finnegan didn’t get a strike out, but he also didn’t allow a hit while facing the middle of the Seattle lineup. The 32-year-old is already up to 14 saves, and he has lowered his ERA to 1.80. Contenders have certainly taken notice of his work in 2024. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:29 pm

    • Rebounds for 14th save
Holmes earned the save in Thursday's 5-0 win over Seattle, allowing two hits while striking out two in 1.1 innings.

Advice: He came on in relief in the eighth after Nick Burdi loaded the bases. Holmes induced a grounder off the bat of Luke Raley for the final out before working around a pair of singles in the ninth to earn his 14th save. It's a nice bounce-back effort from Holmes, after he allowed four runs in a blown save against Seattle on Monday, the first four runs he's allowed this season. Overall, the 31-year-old right-hander sports a 1.64 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB across 22 innings this year. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:46 pm

    • Loses perfect ERA
Holmes (1-1) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while taking a loss against the Mariners on Monday. He blew a save chance and recorded only two outs.

Advice: Holmes entered Monday with zero earned runs allowed through 20 innings this season. Seattle chipped away at him with singles and walks to plate four runs and take the lead in the ninth inning. Holmes' ERA jumped to 1.74 as he was handed his first loss of the year. He's converted 13 of his 15 save chances while registering a 23:6 K:BB through 20.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:24 pm

    • Holmes blows second save Monday
Clay Holmes blew his second save of the season against the Mariners on Monday.

Advice: Holmes hadn’t allowed an earned run all season. He entered with a 4-1 lead against the Mariners. After a Josh Rojas ground to begin the ninth inning, the floodgates opened. Julio Rodriguez hit an infield single. Cal Raleigh walked. Luke Raley hit an infield single and Gleyber Torres threw the ball into the Yankees dugout to make it 4-2. Mitch Haniger singled to center to make it 4-3. Dylan Moore walked. Dominic Canzone hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Ty France singled on a ground ball to give the Mariners the lead. In all, Holmes allowed four earned runs and only recorded two outs without allowing any hard contact. His ERA is up to 1.74 on the season.

    • Blows save, takes loss Saturday
Finnegan (1-3) took the loss and blew a save against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk over 1.2 innings.

Advice: Finnegan was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning and got two outs before serving up a game-tying solo homer to Kody Clemens. The contest went into an extra frame, and after Washington failed to score in the top of the 10th, Finnegan was tagged with the loss when Bryce Harper plated the automatic runner on a sacrifice fly. The blown save was just the second for Finnegan this year, with the other coming all the way back on March 31. The right-hander has been one of the best closers in the league this season with 13 saves along with a 1.89 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB over 19 frames. Rotowire.com May 18, 8:55 pm

    • Finnegan blows save against the Phillies
Kyle Finnegan blew his second save of the season against the Phillies on Saturday.

Advice: Finnegan had two outs in the bottom of the ninth when he allowed a game-tying solo home run to Kody Clemens. Finnegan took the loss as he allowed another run on a game-winning sacrifice fly by Bryce Harper in the 10th inning. He entered play Saturday leading the league with 13 saves, but he was probably due to give up some runs as his ERA is 1.89 but his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.72.
