    • Clase picks up 16th save Saturday
Emmanuel Clase tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 16th save of the season against the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Clase allowed one hit and struck out two batters. He lowered his ERA to 0.34 with another scoreless appearance. Clase continues to show he’s one of the league’s elite closers. Rotoworld Saturday, 9:34 pm
    • Just shy of quality start
Taillon allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Saturday.

Advice: Taillon fell one out shy of a quality start, though he exited the game at 105 pitches (68 strikes) after giving up an RBI double to Masyn Winn in the sixth inning. This was an improvement on Taillon's last two starts -- he didn't complete five innings in either of those games. The right-hander is at a 2.58 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 38.1 innings over seven starts this season, but his 4.69 FIP and .238 BABIP suggest he's enjoyed good luck so far, especially earlier in the season. He's projected for a road start versus the Brewers in his next outing. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:20 pm
    • Jameson Taillon gives up three runs in no-decision
Jameson Taillon wasn’t at his best in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday night, surrendering three runs on nine hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 32-year-old right-hander punched out three batters on the night while issuing one base on balls. The Cardinals scratched out a pair of runs against him in the third inning, then added another on an RBI double by Masyn Winn as they chased him from the game in the sixth inning. Taillon got just three swings and misses on 105 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll tote a 2.58 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 25/11 K/BB ratio (38 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Thursday. Rotoworld Saturday, 7:17 pm
    • Annihilates Houston, nabs save
Miller notched his 10th save of the season Saturday, striking out the side in a 4-1 win over the Astros.

Advice: Miller was coming off his worst appearance of the season his last time out against the Rockies, but he had no such trouble in this one. The flamethrower needed 15 pitches to dispose of the Astros in order, topping out at 102.2 mph with his fastball. Miller has struck out multiple batters in 14 of 18 outings this season. • Allows two runs Saturday
Civale allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Royals on Saturday.

Advice: Civale did a fine job, limiting the damage to a Nelson Velazquez solo shot in the second inning and a Bobby Witt RBI single in the third. This was Civale's eighth straight start without a win, though he's at least managed to complete five innings in each of his last three outings after a run of four starts where he failed to do so. The right-hander has a poor 5.72 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 57:15 K:BB over 56.2 innings across 11 starts this season. He's projected for a tough road start in Baltimore his next time out. • Rehab start could come next week
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that there's a chance Cole (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment as soon as the upcoming week, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Cole threw a live batting practice session Saturday without issue, marking the second time he's faced hitters since he resumed a throwing program. According to Erik Boland of Newsday, Cole utilized all of his pitches in the simulated game and reached 95 miles per hour on his fastball, a velocity limit the Yankees had imposed on him prior to the throwing session as a matter of precaution. Cole could be asked to throw another live BP, but beginning a rehab assignment also appears to be on the table. Cole will need multiple rehab starts before returning from the injured list and joining the Yankees rotation, so he's still a few weeks away from making his 2024 debut with the big club. • Aaron Civale goes five solid in no-decision vs. KC
Aaron Civale worked five innings while allowing two earned runs in a no-decision Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: Civale gave up a solo homer to Nelson Velazquez in the second, and an inning later an RBI single to Bobby Witt Jr. Outside of those frames the right-hander was solid while walking two and striking out five against the quality KC lineup. Civale had been awful in May with a 7.32 ERA for his troubles, but this might be the start that gets the 28-year-old on the right track. A chance to build on this is scheduled for Friday, but it’ll come against the daunting Baltimore lineup. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:29 pm

    • Mason Miller strikes out side in save vs. Astros
Mason Miller struck out the side to pick up the save and help the Athletics to a 3-1 win over the Astros on Saturday.

Advice: How can you not be impressed with what Miller has done? The right-hander threw 15 pitches while fanning the side, and it’s nice to see after he blew the save Thursday against the Rockies while allowing five runs — three of those earned. Miller will have some limitations based on Oakland not being very good and Oakland being very careful with the right-hander, but simply put, he has as good of stuff as any reliever in baseball. • Gerrit Cole (elbow) faces hitters again Saturday
Gerrit Cole (elbow) faced hitters on Saturday in a simulated game.

Advice: The emergence of dynamic righty Luis Gil has lessened the urgency for New York to rush Cole back in their starting rotation mix. The 33-year-old righty hasn’t ruled out a potential June return, but he’s going to need to progress to at least a handful of minor league rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before that happens.
