    • Tanner Houck fans nine in tough-luck no-decision
Tanner Houck was brilliant in a tough-luck no-decision on Sunday night, piling up nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: Houck scattered just four hits on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single by Matt Mervis in the seventh inning — the final batter that Houck faced. The 27-year-old right-hander generated 16 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night — getting five or more whiffs on each of his slider, sinker and splitter — while posting a CSW of 35 percent. He’ll bring a pristine 1.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 41/5 K/BB ratio (39 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Twins in Minnesota. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

    • Sits with hand injury
Encarnacion-Strand was held out of Sunday's game due to a hand injury suffered the previous day, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand was struck on his left hand by a pitch Saturday. According to manager David Bell, X-rays showed he did not sustain a fracture; however, the imaging revealed evidence of a previous fracture that may be contributing to his soreness. Spencer Steer filled at first base for Encarnacion-Strand, who could be out a "few days," per Bell. Rotowire.com Today, 6:05 pm
    • Framber Valdez picks up win in return from IL
Framber Valdez won in his return from the IL on Sunday, allowing two runs over five innings against the Rockies in Mexico City.

Advice: Sharp even without the benefit or a rehab assignment, Valdez struck out six and walked none today. He threw 71 pitches, which is right where Houston wanted him in his first start back from elbow inflammation. He’ll face the Mariners at home next time out. Rotoworld Today, 4:26 pm

    • Michael King hit hard in loss to Phillies Sunday
Michael King was hit hard in a losing effort against the Phillies on Sunday afternoon, surrendering six runs on six hits across 5 1/3 innings.

Advice: On the plus side for fantasy managers, he still did manage to punch out six batters on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. His troubles in this one stemmed from his inability to keep the ball in the yard, as Bryson Stott crushed a pair of two-run homers off of him and J.T. Realmuto added one of his own. King got 10 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to get back on track as he carries a 5.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 40/21 K/BB ratio (36 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Rotoworld Today, 4:19 pm

    • Fans six in win
Valdez allowed two runs on five hits over five innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rockies.

Advice: Valdez was activated from the injured list and made his first appearance since April 2. He coughed up a pair of runs in the second inning but otherwise looked solid. He forced 13 swinging strikes and his sinker touched 96 mph. Through three starts this season, Valdez has produced a 2.60 ERA with a 16:6 K:BB across 17.1 frames. He's currently projected for a home start against the Mariners next weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 4:08 pm

    • Jared Jones manages just three strikeouts in loss
Jared Jones took a loss to the Giants after allowing three runs in five innings Sunday.

Advice: Jones had struck out at least seven in all five of his starts to date, but he fanned just three today, and he seemed to tire out quickly, with his last three fastballs in the fifth coming in at 94.4, 93.3 and 93.8 mph. That’s from a guy averaging 97.4 mph on the season. The loss leaves him 2-3 in spite of a 3.18 ERA. He should bounce back in a home start versus the Rockies next weekend. • Stumbles in San Francisco
Jones (2-3) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Giants.

Advice: All three runs against Jones scored during a disastrous third inning. He gave up five hits in the frame, including solo homers by Thairo Estrada and Mike Yastrzemski to start things off. Jones' historic strikeout pace slowed down as he forced only seven swinging strikes in the subpar outing. As impressive as the right-handed rookie has been, he's been tagged with seven homers through his first six starts. He'll carry a 3.18 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be at home against the Rockies. Rotowire.com Today, 3:50 pm

    • Sits with illness
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Westburg was unavailable against the A's on Sunday due to a stomach bug, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The illness brought an end to a streak of 16 straight starts for Westburg, who has a .304/.360/.543 slash line through 25 games this season. The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Yankees. Rotowire.com Today, 2:01 pm

    • Returns to lineup Sunday
Cruz (ankle) is starting at shortstop and batting third Sunday against the Giants, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Cruz was held out of the lineup Saturday after he tweaked his ankle in Friday's series opener, but he's back in the starting nine Sunday. The 25-year-old is without a home run since April 13 and has a .205/.286/.250 slash line and 38.8 percent strikeout rate during that 13-game stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 10:53 am
