      Advice: Wheeler cruised through six scoreless frames before running into trouble in the seventh. In that inning, he retired the first two batters he faced before allowing back-to-back singles. The right-hander was then given the hook, and both runners came around to score following his departure. Wheeler nonetheless managed a quality start -- his seventh over his past eight outings.       Zack Wheeler was charged with two runs over 6 2/3 innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

      Advice: Wheeler maneuvered around plenty of traffic on the basepaths into the late stages of this one, but was tagged for a pair of runs in the seventh inning when reliever Matt Strahm served up a game-tying three-run double to Bryan De La Cruz. The 34-year-old fantasy ace has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 14 of his 17 starts this season.       Kyle Tucker (shin) progressed to taking 30 swings off a batting tee earlier this week.

      Advice: Tucker is close to resuming running again after landing on the injured list earlier this month with a right shin contusion. It’s a positive sign that he’s progressed to taking some swings again. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return, but he’s definitely going to need at least a brief minor league rehab assignment before rejoining Houston’s lineup.     • George Kirby changed his curve grip in last start
      George Kirby debuted a new curveball grip in Tuesday’s start, making the change “on the fly” before the game.

      Advice: Kirby didn’t like how his curveball was performing against right-handed batters this season, so he decided to try a new grip before Tuesday’s start in order to “find something that has a little more depth and [he] can stay on the plate with it.” It seemed to work on Tuesday as Kirby threw just six curveballs but got five swings and two whiffs. The other swings resulted in foul balls and one groundout. Kirby mentioned that it’s a grip he’s used in the past and one he knows Zac Gallen uses. “I throw it a little bit harder, but it just kind of eliminates the horizontal movement, which, especially to righties, I kind of had a hard time with.” After a successful first attempt at the new grip, the modification may stay around, giving Kirby a little more fantasy upside in what is already a good season.       Bryan Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 23 consecutive games on Wednesday in the Pirates’ victory over the Reds.

      Advice: Reynolds officially owns the longest hit streak of the 2024 campaign after a first-inning single on Wednesday afternoon against Reds starter Graham Ashcraft. It was his lone hit in five at-bats, but the fact that he got it out of the way right out of the gate took all of the drama out of this one. The 29-year-old outfielder is in the midst of a stellar stretch at the dish, batting .323 (40-for-124) with seven homers and one steal over his last 30 games. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:43 pm
       
    • George Kirby flummoxes Rays over six frames in win
      George Kirby struck out seven and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Rays.

      Advice: Kirby coughed up an early run-scoring single to Yandy Díaz, but managed to keep Tampa Bay’s lineup quiet from the third inning onwards to net his seventh win of the season. He induced 13 swinging strikes, including six on his four-seam fastball, and finished with a pedestrian 28 percent CSW. Of course, he also didn’t hand out a free pass in this one. It wasn’t his most dominant effort of the season, but was more than enough to lead Seattle to a much-needed win. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts dating back to May 29. He’ll carry a strong 3.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 96/9 K/BB ratio across 99 1/3 innings (17 starts) into a tough come outing on Wednesday against the Orioles. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:21 pm

      Kirby (7-5) allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Rays.

      Advice: Kirby had his way with the Rays on Wednesday as he managed to get through six innings for his third win in his last five starts. Kirby has been on a tear, allowing two runs or less in six consecutive starts, posting a 1.70 ERA with three walks and 40 strikeouts in that span.       Advice: Despite the sparse stat line, Chisholm played a key role in the victory -- he smashed an infield single back at Will Smith in the seventh inning, and Nick Gordon came home with the winning run on the southpaw's throwing error.
