    • Fills in at first base
Steer started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Texas.

Advice: Steer moved from his usual left field to first base, replacing the injured Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand). The run batted in was just his second in the last 14 games, but Speer continues to the lead the club with 20 RBI through 28 games. The steal was his seventh, nearly half of the 15 he had over 156 games in 2023. Encarnacion-Strand may miss a few more games, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, and Steer could add to his games played at first base. So far, he's made four appearances there. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago

    • Brandon Pfaadt fans 11 in no-decision vs. Mariners
Brandon Pfaadt was terrific in a no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday afternoon, piling up 11 strikeouts over six innings of two-run baseball.

Advice: The right-hander allowed five hits in the ballgame and didn’t walk a batter. He gave up a leadoff homer to Josh Rojas to start the game, then kept the Mariners off the board the rest of the away aside from an RBI single off the bat of Julio Rodriguez in the third inning. The 25-year-old hurler got an impressive 17 swings and misses in the ballgame — nine on his sweeper alone — leading to an elite CSW of 38 percent. Pfaadt will look to further improve upon his 4.63 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 38/6 K/BB ratio (35 innings) when he takes on the Padres at home on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 4:08 pm
    • Nolan Arenado goes 0-for-5 in loss to Mets
Nolan Arenado finished 0-for-5 in the loss to the Mets on Sunday, snapping a 25-game on-base streak.

Advice: Arenado struck out once and failed to hit a ball hard in his other four attempts. Up with one out and a man on third in the top of the 11th, he hit a 200-foot fly that turned into a double play because Willson Contreras forgot how many outs there were. Arenado has just one homer this year. His hard-hit rate is only 27%. He’s doing what he can with a .271 average and a .328 OBP, but the power just isn’t there right now. • Freddie Freeman homers in loss
Freddie Freeman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday

Advice: Freeman hit a 425-foot blast off of Kevin Gausman that left the bat at 106.3 mph. It’s just his second home run on the season to fo along with an impressive 19 RBI. Freeman is hitting .306/.425/.435 on the season and while the power may not be as prevalent as he continues to get along, the rest of his offensive profile as remained tremendous. • Pitches through side tightness
Hicks said he experienced a bit of side tightness during his start against the Pirates on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Hicks apparently felt the tightness following the sixth inning, though he still briefly came out for the seventh before being pulled after giving up a leadoff single. The right-hander is apparently fine, but it's still worth keeping an eye on his status heading into his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend in Philadelphia. • Picks up third win
Blanco (3-0) earned the win Saturday over Colorado after he gave up two runs on five hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The right-hander surrendered a two-run homer to Ryan McMahon in the opening frame but otherwise had no issues pitching at altitude in Mexico City. Blanco came up an out short of extending his streak of quality starts to five, but it was yet another strong performance. The 30-year-old has been a bright spot amid a horrible start to the season for Houston with a 1.65 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB across 32.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 6:04 am

    • Season-high nine strikeouts
Hicks did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine over six innings.

Advice: Hicks was in the zone Saturday, striking out the side in the first inning before going on to retire 10 of the first 12 batters he faced in the contest. He actually allowed the leadoff man to reach in four of the seven innings in which he appeared but wasn't charged with a run until the seventh, after being relieved by Luke Jackson. Hicks has now been hit with a no-decision in each of his last three starts despite holding his opponents to two or fewer runs in those outings. The right-hander also recorded a season-high nine strikeouts Saturday and did not walk a batter after issuing at least two free passes in each of his last three starts. • Jordan Hicks posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Jordan Hicks recorded a career-high nine strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball on Saturday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Hicks was simply magnificent in this one, continuing his early-season run of success in his Giants debut, coaxing 15 swinging strikes -- including 11 whiffs on his splitter alone -- and finishing with a near-elite 35 percent CSW. The hard-throwing 27-year-old has excelled in his conversion back to a traditional starting role for San Francisco, allowing two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts to open the year. There’s some regression looming in run-prevention department, but he’s been outstanding no matter how you slice the underlying data. He’ll carry a microscopic 1.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 27/10 K/BB ratio across 34 innings (six starts) into a road tilt on Friday against the Phillies. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 am

    • Tosses seven scoreless frames
Morton allowed four hits and one walk while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Saturday.

Advice: Morton and Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee both hurled seven scoreless frames in the contest, subjecting both pitchers to a no-decision despite their impressive individual efforts. Morton notched his second straight quality start, and he appears to be coming back around after allowing 10 runs over 11.1 frames across a pair of outings April 8 and April 14. The veteran right-hander continues rolling along as an effective rotation piece in his 17th MLB season -- through five starts, he's posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB over 30 innings.
