    • Brady Singer struggles in loss to Mariners
Brady Singer was charged for four runs over five innings while picking up a loss Monday to the Mariners.

Advice: Singer was in constant trouble Monday, as he allowed nine hits with one walk against six strikeouts. He gave up a long homer to Luke Raley in the second, and two more runs were surrendered by the right-hander in the third. Singer has been solid for the overwhelming majority of 2024, but this wasn’t his night. A good chance to rebound comes Sunday against the Athletics, assuming the rotation order doesn’t change. • Reynaldo López (back) likely to make next start
Reynaldo López tossed five scoreless innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

Advice: López certainly would’ve gone deeper into the contest, but he was lifted for precautionary reasons following just 71 pitches (50 strikes) after his back tightened up on him. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern with Braves manager Brian Snitker telling reporters afterwards that he doesn’t expect him to miss his next start. The 30-year-old righty will bring a stellar 1.34 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 40/16 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Padres. • Strikes out five in no-decision
Manning allowed three runs on nine hits across 5.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Monday against the Marlins. He walked one and struck out five.

Advice: Manning was recalled from Triple-A Toledo before the game, and he managed to limit damage despite being a tad too hittable. The five strikeouts helped the cause and continued a promising trend for the righty. Across 22.2 innings in the majors this year, Manning now has 22 strikeouts. He also has 24 strikeouts over 19 innings in the minors. For a pitcher who posted a 5.8 K/9 for Detroit in 2023, it's a step in the right direction. Manning should continue to start with Kenta Maeda (illness) out, and he's penciled in to take the mound again Sunday against the Diamondbacks on the road. Rotowire.com Today, 7:32 pm
    • Exits with tight back
Lopez was lifted from Monday's start against the Cubs early due to back tightness, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. He didn't factor into the decision after allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings.

Advice: Lopez was removed from the game firing 71 pitches, and he likely would've gone back out for the sixth had his back not become an issue. He'll be considered day-to-day leading up to his next outing, but the club expects him to be ready for his next start, per Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. • Matt Manning allows three runs in no-decision
Matt Manning gave up three runs over 5 2/3 innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Manning was tagged for nine hits, but none of them wound up leaving the yard. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 26-year-old righty has absolutely held his own in four starts this season at the highest level, but he’ll likely only get one additional turn in Detroit’s starting rotation on Sunday against the Diamondbacks until veteran Kenta Maeda (illness) is ready to return. • In Monday's lineup
Kim (wrist) will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Monday's game versus the Rockies.

Advice: Kim was removed from Sunday's game against the Dodgers after being hit by a pitch on his left wrist. However, X-rays came back clean and he won't wind up missing any starts. Rotowire.com Today, 3:29 pm

    • Tigers promote Matt Manning for start on Monday
Tigers recalled RHP Matt Manning from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: This move was reported over the weekend and is now official. Manning will take the place of Kenta Maeda in the rotation, but with Maeda only being sidelined by an illness, we’re not sure how long the 26-year-old will be in the Tigers’ rotation. Given how much Maeda has struggled this year, Manning has a chance to stake his claim to a rotation spot. Manning has posted solid ratios the last two seasons but wasn’t able to miss many bats. This year, he’s added velocity and vertical movement on his fastball, and the slider has looked much better so there could be some real upside here. Rotoworld Today, 2:38 pm
    • Recalled ahead of Monday's start
The Tigers recalled Manning from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Advice: He'll start Monday against the Marlins and should be set for at least a couple of turns through the big-league rotation while Kenta Maeda (illness) is on the 15-day injured list. Manning has been solid during his time with the Tigers this season, putting up a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings through his first three starts. Rotowire.com Today, 2:08 pm
    • Turns in scoreless appearance
Gil (4-1) allowed three hits and two walks over six shutout innings Sunday, striking out three and earning a win over the Rays.

Advice: Gil never found himself in much trouble Sunday as he cruised to a scoreless quality start. He's gone 3-0 while giving up one run over 18.1 frames in his last three outings, dropping his season ERA to 2.51. Prior to these three straight quality starts, Gil hadn't completed six innings in any of his first five appearances. His next start is projected to be a strong home matchup against the White Sox.
