    • Matz throws two innings in rehab game
Cardinals sent LHP Steven Matz on rehab assignment to Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Matz threw two scoreless innings and had two strikeouts in his first rehab start on Thursday. The 33-year-old left-hander has been on the injured list since mid-May with a back injury. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Big improvement over Wednesday
Beeks picked up five outs for the Rockies in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals, striking out two while allowing no hits or walks between the eighth and ninth innings.

Advice: This was a major improvement vs. Beeks' outing Wednesday, when he allowed five earned runs in a blown save in the loss to the Reds, an outing where nothing was going right for the left-hander. The negative news for Thursday, however, is that the Rockies brought in the opposite-handed Tyler Kinley to get the save, as the latter picked up the final out of the game for his third save of the season. Beeks does lead the Rockies with six saves, and the team's closing situation remains as muddled as it has at any point this season. Five different players have saves for a team that's won only 22 games all season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:35 am

    • Stuck with loss Thursday
Gaddis (3-2) took the loss Thursday versus the Royals, allowing one run on two hits over one inning.

Advice: Gaddis gave up the go-ahead run on a Kyle Isbel single in the eighth inning. This ended Gaddis' scoreless streak at 13.1 innings and gave him his first loss since April 30. The right-hander has been excellent in a setup role this year with a 1.84 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 26:5 K:BB to go with 13 holds over 29.1 innings. As long as this setback doesn't become a slump, he should continue to help the Guardians hold leads in the late innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:45 pm

    • Excellent in no-decision
Parker allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out two batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Thursday.

Advice: Parker allowed just one hit through six scoreless frames before Atlanta got to him for a pair of runs on a single and a homer in the seventh. The rookie left-hander still managed to close out that frame to tie his longest outing of the season, but he had to settle for a no-decision. Parker has been remarkably consistent as a major-league pitcher thus far, allowing three or fewer runs in all 10 of his starts. He holds a 3.47 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 45:12 K:BB through 57 frames on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:25 pm
    • Provides quality start
Vasquez allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 6.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Advice: Vasquez struggled early, allowing all three runs over the first two innings. Two of the runs came on solo shots by Eugenio Suarez and Gabriel Moreno in the second. This was Vasquez's second quality start of the campaign, but he's been little more than mediocre with a 5.40 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB over 33.1 innings across his seven starts so far. Joe Musgrove (elbow) is likely to be sidelined at least into July, which opens an opportunity for Vasquez or Adam Mazur to claim a spot in the rotation for a longer run. Vasquez should get at least one more chance to audition versus the Athletics at home next week, and his stay in the majors could be longer if Yu Darvish (groin) isn't able to return when first eligible June 14. • Slade Cecconi falters versus Padres
Slade Cecconi surrendered three runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings Thursday against the Padres.

Advice: Fortunately, the bullpen was stellar the rest of the way. For Cecconi, though, it was another tough outing. The Diamondbacks would have him in Triple-A right now if they possessed a healthy rotation. He turned in quality starts in his first two outings in April, but he’s given up 23 earned runs in 29 1/3 innings since, leaving him 1-4 with a 5.66 ERA. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:11 pm
    • Randy Vásquez delivers quality start in no-decision
Randy Vásquez yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Vásquez walked none and generated more soft contact than loud, but he did give up homers to Eugenio Suárez and Gabriel Moreno. The D’backs pulled him with two outs and none on in a 3-3 game in the seventh, only to watch the typically unhittable Jeremiah Estrada come in and give up a double and an RBI single to break the tie. Vásquez will get a home start against the A’s next time out, making him a streaming option in mixed leagues. The D’backs will eventually likely choose between him and Adam Mazur to remain in the rotation after Yu Darvish returns. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:11 pm

    • Does alright in no-decision
Cecconi allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk and struck out three batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Thursday.

Advice: Cecconi was again fine but not great in his second start since being recalled from Triple-A Reno to take Zac Gallen's (hamstring) place in the rotation. Cecconi has allowed four runs over nine innings across those two starts, and he's at a 5.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through 41.1 innings over eight appearances (seven starts) this year. Gallen resumed throwing earlier in the week, but he's not eligible to return until next Friday, so Cecconi should be in line for a home start versus the Angels next week. • Struggles against Red Sox
Woodford (0-2) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings to take the loss Thursday versus the Red Sox.

Advice: Woodford has failed to pitch past the fifth inning in both of his starts for the White Sox so far. The Red Sox jumped on him right away Thursday, with Jarren Duran leading off the game with a solo home run. Enmanuel Valdez added a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Woodford doesn't have a great track record as a starter in the majors, but he's likely to remain in the rotation for another turn, as Mike Clevinger (elbow) will require a rehab start before returning. Woodford is lined up for a road start in Seattle next week if the White Sox give him another outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 pm
