    • José Abreu goes 0-for-3, strikes out twice
José Abreu went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday in a loss to the Mariners.

Advice: We’d understand the Astros giving Abreu one more shot at Jon Singleton’s expense, and we’d understand setting up a platoon that sees Singleton play versus righties and Abreu against lefties. What we can’t understand is playing both guys, when it means putting both Chas McCormick and Mauricio Dubón on the bench and taking a defensive downgrade with Yordan Alvarez in left field (and increasing the injury risk for Alvarez). Still, that’s exactly what the Astros have done in both games since Abreu returned from exile. It’s a bad strategy, and the team has paid the price the last two days. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Takes blown save
Holmes allowed two hits in one-third of an inning, taking a blown save in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Holmes inherited two runners from Luke Weaver and allowed both to score on a Taylor Ward double that flipped the Yankees' one-run lead to a one-run deficit. While he wasn't charged with either run, Holmes ended up taking his third blown save of the season, two of which have come in his last four outings. Despite the recent troubles, he's still at a 1.54 ERA and 26:6 K:BB this year, though his 1.24 WHIP is less encouraging. Holmes is still the Yankees' top closing option with 15 saves on the season. • Decent in no-decision
Cortes allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday.

Advice: Cortes allowed multiple runs for the first time in three starts, but it was still a passable outing for the southpaw. He allowed a total of nine runs (eight earned) over 29 innings across five starts in May while adding a 30:8 K:BB in that span. Cortes is at a 3.30 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 67:15 K:BB through 71 innings over 12 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in San Francisco. • Notches three hits
Rengifo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Rengifo did a good job of getting on base, and he was able to score after his singles in the first and eighth innings. The infielder has been locked in since returning from an illness May 17, going 15-for-42 (.357) over his last 10 contests. That has raised his slash line to .331/.378/.504 with four home runs, 12 stolen bases, 17 RBI and 22 runs scored across 144 plate appearances on the year. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

    • Homers in three-hit game
Pillar went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Pillar has hit safely in his last 11 games, going 20-for-41 (.488) in that span. He's logged a trio of three-hit efforts during the streak. The outfielder is up to a .349/.402/.639 slash line with six homers, 24 RBI, 14 runs scored, six stolen bases, four doubles and a triple over 34 contests this season. He struggled initially with the White Sox, but he's been excellent since joining the Angels at the end of April. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago

    • Secures save Tuesday
Estevez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The Angels rallied ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Estevez made the lead stand. The closer has allowed four runs (three earned) over 8.1 innings in May while adding three saves, one blown save and two losses. He's at a 4.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB over 17 innings this season, but he continues to operate in the closer role despite his shaky pitching. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago
    • No-decision versus Yankees
Canning allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Tuesday.

Advice: Canning gave up a solo home run and an RBI single to Juan Soto, as well as an RBI double to Austin Wells. Canning has allowed at least one home run in four of his last five starts, the exception being his scoreless outing versus the Royals on May 10. The right-hander is now at a 5.08 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 41:23 K:BB through 56.2 innings across 11 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start in Seattle. • Goes deep in loss
Bryant went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 13-7 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Bryant has gone 6-for-28 (.214) over eight games since he returned from a back injury. His homer Tuesday was his first extra-base hit in that span. The 32-year-old is slashing a meager .173/.303/.280 with two homers, nine RBI, four runs scored and two doubles over 21 contests this season. For now, it looks like Bryant and Elehuris Montero will share first base and designated hitter. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

    • Kevin Pillar goes 3-for-4, homers to propel Angels
Kevin Pillar went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer Tuesday in leading the Angels to a 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The White Sox releasing Pillar after a 4-for-25 start, only to watch him hit .431/.459/.759 with five homers in his first 17 games for the Angels, is undeniably the funniest thing to happen in 2024. There’s no reason to expect Pillar to keep this up — and we still wouldn’t recommend him in mixed leagues — but it’d be hilarious if he somehow pulled off a career year at age 35.
