    • Groome, three others suspended by MLB for betting
MLB suspended LHP Jay Groome one year for violating Major League Baseball’s betting policy.

Advice: Groome was suspended along with Athletics right-handed pitcher Michael Kelly, Diamondbacks left-hander Andrew Saalfrank, and Phillies infielder Jose Rodriguez for one year. The four players were found guilty of betting on the sport, but they weren’t on the roster or injured list of the team they bet on. That was not the case of Tucupita Marcano, who was banned for life for getting over $87,000 on that situation. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago

    • Suspended by MLB
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Groome has been suspended one year for violating the league's gambling policy, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Advice: MLB's investigation revealed that Groome made 24 bets on the Red Sox's major-league club while he was assigned to their High-A Greenville affiliate. He didn't appear in any of the games on which he bet and MLB has determined that the outcomes of the games weren't compromised. Groome is currently on Triple-A El Paso's 7-day injured list due to an undisclosed issue and is a member of the Padres' 40-man roster. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago

    • Marcano banned for violating betting policy
Tucupita Marcano has been banned from baseball for life for violating Major League Baseball’s betting policy.

Advice: This was first reported by Lindsay Adler and Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal on Monday, and now it’s official. The investigation by MLB found that Marcano bet more than $150,000 on baseball, with $87,319 of that on bets related to baseball. The league did determine the bets didn’t compromise the outcomes of any games, but that won’t change Marcano’s status. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago

    • Issued one-year suspension
Kelly has been suspended one year for violating Major League Baseball's gambling policy, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Advice: MLB's investigation determined that Kelly bet a total of $99.22 on MLB games during a time he was on the Astros' Triple-A Sugar Land roster. Currently, Kelly is on the Athletics' roster, having posted a 2.59 ERA over 28 relief appearances. He will not appeal the suspension. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago

    • Lifetime ban for sports betting
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Marcano has been issued a lifetime ban for violating the league's gambling policy, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Advice: MLB's investigation found that Marcano bet more than $150,000 on baseball, with $87,319 being in MLB-related wagers. Marcano didn't play in any of the games he bet on, and the league has determined the outcomes of the games in which he placed bets weren't compromised in any way. The 24-year-old had been on the Padres' 10-day injured list while completing a recovery from ACL surgery. Rotowire.com 59 minutes ago

    • Drives in three Monday
Winker went 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBI in Monday's loss to the Mets.

Advice: All three hits were singles, but it was still a productive night for Winker. His performance was marred by a caught stealing to end the second inning, however -- one of many mistakes by the Nats in what proved to be a one-run loss. The 30-year-old outfielder is batting .333 (11-for-33) over the last 10 games, but his only extra-base hit during that stretch is a double, and his homer drought currently stands at 13 games. • Collects first hold
Houser gave up two hits and two walks over 2.1 scoreless relief innings Monday to record his first hold of the season in Monday's win over the Nationals. He failed to strike out a batter.

Advice: It was far from a dominant performance, but Houser was able to protect an 8-5 lead after taking the ball from Tylor Megill to begin the sixth inning. Houser has adjusted well to a long relief role so far, allowing two earned runs in 12.1 innings over five appearances, but his 5:7 K:BB suggests his luck won't last. Monday's hold was just the second of his career, with the other coming back in 2019 when he filled a similar swingman role with the Brewers. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am

    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

Advice: Basso has made two scoreless relief appearances for the Athletics this season. The left-hander has been used as a starter during his time with Las Vegas and will likely get stretched back out in its rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 6:49 am

    • Three hits in Monday's win
Iglesias went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Monday's win over the Nationals.

Advice: Getting the start at second base and batting eighth with left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound for the Nats, Iglesias produced his first three-hit performance since August 2022 -- and that game was in Coors Field. The 34-year-old was added to the roster to provide infield depth, but he's begun his Mets tenure by going 5-for-11 with a stolen base. With Jeff McNeil stumbling to a career-worst .227/.296/.320 slash line and 103.9 mph max exit velocity so far, the door could be open for Iglesias to see more playing time than expected at the keystone, and potentially even take over the starting job.
