    • Likely moving into rotation
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after Friday's loss to the Cardinals that Hendricks is likely to take Jordan Wicks' (oblique) spot in the rotation, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

Advice: Hendricks came on in relief for the injured Wicks in the second inning and tossed 4.1 scoreless frames. The veteran right-hander has been disastrous on the whole this season with an 8.20 ERA, he's unscored upon over his last 8.2 innings out of the bullpen. Hendricks would tentatively be lined up to start Wednesday at home versus the Giants. Rotowire.com Today, 10:47 am

    • Cade Cavalli (elbow) completes sim game Saturday
Cade Cavalli (elbow) faced hitters on Saturday in a two-inning simulated game.

Advice: Cavalli appears to be in a bit of a holding pattern as he nears the final stages of his rehabilitation process from Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old righty figures to need some additional rehab outings in the upper minors before he’s ready to jump back into Washington’s starting rotation mix. It’s encouraging that he’s getting through all of his throwing sessions without any issues. Rotoworld Today, 10:42 am

    • Recalled from Triple-A
The Cubs recalled Thompson from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Thompson will provide a fresh arm for a bullpen that was needed to cover 7.1 innings Friday. He holds a 4.97 ERA and 19:6 K:BB over 12.2 relief innings during his time with the Cubs this season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:38 am
    • IL move made official
The Cubs placed Wick on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right oblique strain, Taylor McGregor reports.

Advice: Wicks had to be pulled from Friday's start against the Cardinals in the second inning due to the injury. It's not clear what grade the strain is, so it's difficult to project a return date. Typically, though, even low-grade oblique strains result in longer than a minimum stay on the IL. Kyle Hendricks will slide into Wicks' rotation spot. Rotowire.com Today, 10:31 am

    • Cubs recall Keegan Thompson from Triple-A
Cubs recalled RHP Keegan Thompson from Triple-A

Advice: Thompson posted a serviceable 4.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 19/6 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (nine appearances) earlier this season for the Cubs. The 29-year-old righty provides Chicago’s bullpen with some extra long relief depth moving forward. Rotoworld Today, 10:31 am
    • Back in big leagues
Vespi was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.

Advice: Vespi will return to the major-league bullpen after being sent down June 6, replacing Kyle Bradish (elbow) on the Orioles' roster following Bradish's placement on the 15-day injured list Saturday. The left-hander has made two appearances with Baltimore this season, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing two hits. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am

    • Cubs put Jordan Wicks (oblique) on 15-day IL
Cubs placed LHP Jordan Wicks on the 15-day injured list with a right oblique strain.

Advice: Wicks suffered the injury during Friday’s start against the Cardinals and is likely to wind up missing at least a couple weeks, even in a best-case scenario. It’ll probably be Kyle Hendricks taking his spot in Chicago’s starting rotation since they don’t really have a ton of alternatives at the moment. Rotoworld Today, 10:27 am

    • Placed on 15-day IL
Bradish (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right UCL sprain Saturday.

Advice: Bradish pitched five frames in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Phillies in extra innings, leaving the contest with right elbow discomfort, which is now understood to be due to the much-despised UCL. The 27-year-old missed the first month of the season with a UCL sprain, so he's likely set to miss more than the minimum 15 days and could be out until after the All-Star break. Left-hander Nick Vespi was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Bradish on Baltimore's major-league roster in a corresponding move Saturday. Cade Povich appears to be the most likely candidate to replace Bradish in the starting rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 10:21 am

    • Orioles recall Nick Vespi on Saturday
Orioles recalled LHP Nick Vespi from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Vespi gets the call back to the majors with Kyle Bradish heading to the injured list with a UCL sprain in his right elbow. The 28-year-old lefty has made a pair of relief appearances this season for the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 10:21 am
